Fantastic Four sequel scrapped by Hollywood bosses after original film's humiliating box office figures are revealed

Despite Fox's initial insistence that the Fantastic Four sequel was moving forward despite the box office failure of the first film, Fox has now officially removed the Fantastic Four sequel from their release schedule.

Fantastic Four 2 was originally scheduled for a June 9, 2017 release date, even before the first film hit theaters. With virtually all superhero movies performing well at the box office recently, Fox probably felt confident at the time that Fantastic Four would follow suit.

The Hollywood Reporter estimates that Fantastic Four resulted in a $60 million to $100 million loss for 21st Century Fox.

That's never made any sense, changing white characters to black for no reason (Johnny Storm/Human Torch, the Kingpin, Nick Fury, etc). If they wanted to cast a black actor they should create a totally new character for their films. It's insulting to their fans/audience all because of Hollywood's desire for "diversity" :coffee:

I wonder if the guy from Whiplash will still have a career after this. He was really good in Whiplash I thought.

There have been three attempts at a FF movie in the 'contemporary era,' not counting the Roger Corman thing. The Chris Evans/Jessica Alba movie and its sequel, and this turd. You could tell from the trailers that they would all suck.... no hints of any amazing special effects scenes of Mister Fantastic stretching all over the place... major red flag.

They should have set the FF movie in the early 60s, same time frame as the original comic. Make it light, fun, not take itself too seriously. That would be appropriate. Not everything has to be dark and adult, just because some superhero stories can easily lend themselves to that. I read that this latest movie had elements of Cronenberg "body horror"... what the actual F?? What an odd fit that must have been.

As for changing the race of characters... in most cases, honestly, who cares?? Loyalty to the source material is not as important as making an interesting adaptation. I think there are exceptions though: for whatever reason, I can't imagine a non-white J. Jonah Jameson... seems essential to him. But I don't see why anyone would care either way about Johnny Storm's skin colour.

How many times do they have to fail at this shit before they just stick to the comics with the basics and adapt a story from there. Stop with the changing characters bullshit.
