I'll bite on this one...
Saw Anthony Jeselnik live recently - very funny and very un-PC.
Was nice to be with an audience that took nothing personally and just had a night of laughs and drinks.
Jackie the Jokeman "ehhheeeeeee...drink the bong water"
gilbert hasnt written new material in DECADES his act has never changed since i saw him in 1999 and probably not since 1989 he is funny as hell but his stand up is horrible
Robert Schimmel RIP
I hadn't thought about Schimmel in ages, but heard one of the Sirius comedy channels play a clip of his this weekend. It was very funny.
I thought he usually had good segments when on Wiggy's show. Always personal life chaos with the young wife/yoga guy, etc.
bob was amazing live, slayton is also awesome live, because he just fucks with the audience the whole show so you're never seeing the same act really. he has a few staple bits but mostly its crowd work
the last time i saw bob schimmel live it was at a very shitty club in davie, fl called "uncly funnys", the mic wasnt hooked up right and gave him a zap, without missing a beat he looked up at the sky and goes "WHAT?!! TOO MANY DICK JOKES?!!"
I tuned in HBO over the weekend and started watching a stand up special with a chick named Tig Notaro. She would spend 5 minutes laugh-less setting up a punch line that would bring a quick smile at best. I turned it off after about 15 minutes. We've gone from Carlin and Joan Rivers to this. I guess part of it is that many people are now taking offense at comedy. If a comedy spectrum as broad as Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock and Larry The Cable Guy all agree that college campuses are impossible to work the funny because of PC, then something's wrong.
Bill Burr is slowly becoming my #1
Love(d) both. Bobby is still The Pitbull Of Comedy. No PC with him. (40 second clip):
I'll have to check him out.
He is the only comedian from the last decade worth mentioning really. Him and Dave Attell ofcourse.
Overall i'd have to say Carlin & Hicks, i like comedians who aren't trying to be cute and clever but hit you across the face with a sledgehammer, and be funny while doing so.
This guy....He was the first comic I saw live in person. I don't know that I've ever laughed harder. He has the same angry....bitter....sarcastic sense of humor I have.
I think it's the same with music and most things in general really, i think we've had our peek and things can only go downhill from here. There won't be any comedian with the same impact a Carlin or a Hicks had simply because the ones that are trying to be different and do not care about PC aren't being given a platform to "work the funny". Pretty sad.
And funny female comedians are a rare breed. We have female posters over here who are way more amusing than most who are actually doing stand up on a stage, that should tell you something hehe.
Yeah, i like his attitude also. I can relate very much to the guy and i am not sure if that's a good thing.
I've always wondered about that myself.
