Not a huge John Wayne fan, but really enjoy "The Longest Day" and "They Were Expendible." As for newer movies, I was surprised how good "Fury" was. Also, although it isn't the typical "war" movie, if you haven't checked out "Conspiracy" with Kenneth Branagh, a flick about the Nazis devising the Final Solution, you should. It is haunting how those men sat around that table, casually eating and drinking, and did what they did.

I can say everyone here is wrong. The best war movie is one of the first - if you haven't seen- go and rent/stream this weekend. I am doing you a great favor.

And it is about war - not war as an allegory for something else.

And get the original from 1930. Not the BS version from the 1979 with the kid from the Walton's
