CRYSTAL CITY, Texas (AP) — The mayor and almost every other top official in a tiny South Texas city are under federal indictment for allegedly taking kickbacks from contractors and someone trying to set up illegal gaming rooms.

The U.S. attorney’s office in San Antonio announced Thursday that it had arrested most of the leadership of Crystal City.

Prosecutors say Mayor Ricardo Lopez, City Attorney William James Jonas and others took payments and favors to ease city inspections and approve permits for construction.

Officers were seen Thursday morning removing boxes of documents from the City Hall in Crystal City, a town of about 7,100 located 100 miles southwest of San Antonio.

Several messages left at City Hall were not immediately returned Thursday.

What makes countries south of the border such shit holes?, corruption, what makes anyone think they'll behave any different once they hop the fence and elect beaners, as you so eloquently put it.

The nature of government IS corruption. They are no different than any other organized crime, except they've convinced dumbasses like yourself that they are in some way legitimate.

If only the confederacy had one. States would of gotten self rule instead of us getting federal government ruling the land. Kinda serious.

Sorry, drinking . I meant "won" like won the civil war. States would of had the power run themselves individually.

Reminds me of the old joke. What do you call a lawyer at the bottom of the river? A good start.

I currently live there too. If south had won, the states would of run themselves how they see fit, so the individual could choose how(liberal/conservative)and where to live.
