Interesting fact I hadn't really thought about -- prior to 1967 there was no mechanism to replace a Vice President if he died in office, resigned, or if he ascended to the Presidency.
That's interesting, because when Presidents like Harrison and Lincoln died shortly after an election, there was no Vice President at all for nearly 4 years!
