10 places where you might find fecal matter besides ground beef

According to Consumer Reports, fecal matter is found in a large number of packaged ground beef.
Ready to nix ground beef because of the contents of fecal matter it supposedly carries? Well you should also prepare to slash a hefty number of other handy products because fecal matter is virtually everywhere.

Consumer Reports sent the world into frenzy on Monday with news that out of 458 pounds of store-bought beef it tested -- all contained some level of fecal contamination.

Before you go tossing out the burger patties, you should know that most items in common use have levels of bacteria.

Here, see a few more products that germaphobes should keep at an arm's distance.

    Beards

Proud members of the Beard Gang will be disappointed to learn that their beloved scruff might contain particles of fecal matter.
Hipsters everywhere cringed after learning that their beloved bristles contained alarming percentages of fecal matter. A group of willing members of the "Beard Gang" signed themselves up to have their scruff swabbed by a Quest Diagnostics microbiologist in April 2015. The results found that levels of uncleanliness ranged from average bacterial contents to some mirroring the bacterial content levels of toilets.

    Sponges

Sponges and dishcloths have been discovered to contain millions of bacteria.
The household product used to clean dishes and eating utensils is highly contaminated with bacteria. Citing research from Gerba, the BBC reported that there could be 10 million bacteria per square inch on a sponge, and a million on a dishcloth.

    Tap Water

Tap water is believed to be one of the major household carriers of bacteria.
How does a nice, ice cold glass of fecal matter sound? Fecal matter can can be found swirling around in some faucets, which accounts for a sizable number of illnesses annually.

    Hotel TV remote

Hotel housekeeping staff are overwhelmed with stocking towels and making beds, which leaves little time to scrub TV remotes.
Yes, even channel surfing in your hotel room comes at a cost. A research study conducted by the University of Houston found that nine hotel rooms in three states had bacteria in more places than the toilet. The researchers scaled the rooms and discoverd fecal matter on lamp switches and bathroom sinks.

    Toothbrush

Being in close proximity to the toilet makes the toothbrush a solid target for fecal matter.
If you keep your toothbrush on your bathroom sink, then chances are it's been brushed by bacteria. The American Society for Microbiology conducted a study which found that more than 60% of toothbrushes from students' bathrooms tested positive for fecal matter. Not keeping the seat down provides the perfect environment for the bacteria to spread.

    Vegetables

Even fresh vegetables contain fecal matter.
You didn't think ground beef was the only food group containing fecal matter, did you? The world's vegetable crops, which are grown next to nearby cow and other animals, are often contaminated with bacteria. It is believed that irrigation methods are the culprit behind the spread of the bacteria.

    Shopping carts

The millions of unwashed hands that touch the handles of shopping carts daily makes it a major target for fecal matter.
Imagine the thousands of customers who enter grocery stores and grab carts to do their weekly shopping. A large number of those who stroll down the produce aisles have not washed their hands. Researchers at the University of Arizona swapped 85 carts in four states, and found that 72 percent of them tested positive for fecal matter and half of the carts contained E. coli.

    Ball Pit

You might want to think twice before allowing your toddler to dive into a ball pit. The massive indoor play pens are crawling with bacteria. Chuck E. Cheese famously rid its locations of pits because of rising health concerns.

    Cellphones

Even cellphones, which are held in close proximity to our faces, contain fecal matter.
Our beloved cellphones are not exempt from the spread of bacteria. According to Time, London-based researchers analyzed 780 swab samples - split evenly between phones and from the hands that used them - finding that 16 percent were contaminated with E. coli.

    Backpacks
    [IMG] design56/Getty Images/iStockphoto
Backpacks, which spend a majority of the time on bathroom floors, carry a massive amount of fecal matter.
Bathroom floors are a breeding ground for fecal matter, so it comes as no surprise that backpacks are a major source for bacteria. Some people absentmindedly place their bags down on the floor while they're in the stalls.

Funny, Robin never mentions the vegetable recalls and outbreaks of illness. There have been numerous instances where products like sprouts and organic apple juice have caused sickness and death but she pretends that it doesn't happen.

    It really is silly.

We have bugs living on our eyelashes - and we are worried about fecal matter to the extent that it makes some people sick.

We are gross. And if we shy away from everything, our immune system suffers.

    Embrace the gross.

We used to be immune from all this crap. But all the germophobic behavior of the last 30 years has ruined our immune systems.
