C'mon guys, help a cracker out. I've been looking for four fucking months now, and even though some things have come up that looked like sure-deals, they always fall through and my wife is ripping my nuts off almost daily about it (as if I don't already feel stress from it all). I'm living off of school money, and that's barely doing it for me. I'd like to do anything that's not retail, and would actually like to get into bartending, although that seems to be unnecessarily difficult to get into. What the fuck am I doing wrong?

I'm really just looking for part-time work, but I'd be open to full-time. My resume is pretty much garbage, I've got like 3-4 retail positions (none past a year), my military work, and my time at an arcade & mini-golf place for 3 years. I've got a good-sized gap now from when I left the military, so I don't know if that looks bad or if it matters much (all I'd have to explain is that I was living overseas, but still, seeing it on paper can't look good initially).

What the fuck am I doing wrong? Should I just start making money illegally? I hate this shit! California sucks!

Good luck. That job looks promosing, you could deduct the cost of your internet. Have you had any offers for anything? even things you may not want to do at all?

I read in the newspaper a story of an attorney who got laid off, and is advertising her services as a cleaning lady by saying "haven't you always wanted to have a lawyer clean your toilet?"

Lie on your resume. By the time they find out they won't care. Only if you have been a good employee. Trust me it works. :hhh:

Thanks for the link, low, that looks promising. I'll check it out.

My wife got me on the phone today from Afghanistan and recommended that I perhaps start looking back on the East Coast (Jersey, NYC). Is moving to NYC completely impossible? I'll sleep on Jeton's floor and mop up after his seeding encounters if I have to... Anyone have any experience with this?

I just came back to NYC after 4 years, and in Brooklyn you can find a small 1 BR apartment for anywhere from $1000 on up. If you have a car, you have to worry about finding a spot, and every morning worrying about whether it's still there, and if it is, whether it is still in one piece. In Louisiana, in the tiny town I was in, I was renting a great 2 BR house with lots of property for $350 a month.

NYC is crazy expensive, and I don't know how the job market is. I am also looking for a job so i'll let you know.

Yeah, she's still in (I got out recently). We technically live in Japan, but she's been deployed since June and we decided that it would be best if I came back to the states to try and find some work and get situated. We're both from California, but we spent some time in NJ before moving to Japan, and I'd like to get back to that area of the East Coast. She's reluctant to the idea (she hasn't lived near her family in almost 8 years), but is warming to it lately since I've not found any kind of work here.

Did Satellite Communications for four years, and then Public Affairs for the rest of my time there. I "cross-trained" as they call it, but I wish I had stayed in one career field and built up the experience. What do you do?

Industrial services for refineries, chemical companies and power plants.

We are very weak with our supervisors. We have plenty of worker bees, but not many leaders.

I don't know. I know we have openings on the East Coast. California is a tough place, these days.

It's a large company, but our group is located in areas near the heaviest industries.
