    First-graders read to dogs for Nevada Reading Week

    Sewell Elementary School first-grader William Bonwell reads to a pit bull at The Animal Foundation Tuesday, March 1, 2016, in Las Vegas.     "About 80 first-graders found some eager listeners on Tuesday during a visit to the Animal Foundation.

    The students from C.T. Sewell Elementary School and C.C. Ronnow Elementary School demonstrated their reading skills while dogs at the shelter listened. The visit was part of events to celebrate Nevada Reading Week."

    Where are some of the teachers here? Is this done on a wide scale? This seems like a great idea on so many levels.

    I've never seen it here in CPS, but if I were still in the classroom, I'd be all over it :)

    My class always had human "reading buddies." :p

    My kindergartners would pair up with second or third graders, and read to each other.

    Real great idea to coddle these kids. /sarcasm

    They read to dogs because the dogs "can't judge them" for reading mistakes. Maybe if little Johnny was told he was a dumb fuck and couldn't read properly, this country wouldn't be in the state it is in now.
