This is part of the cast from the upcoming J.K Rowling play premiering in London. The choice of cast was under discussion months ago when a black woman was chosen to play Hermione. J.K Rowling pointed out that she was never specifically written as white, black, or other.

Here’s the official synopsis for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child:

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, a new play by Jack Thorne, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The play will receive its world premiere in London’s West End on July 30, 2016.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

I still have yet to see even two minutes of any of the Harry Potter movies.

Got through half of the first book and had to put it down. Not sure what the appeal is.

I only watched the first movie when I ran out of movies to watch with my nephews. It looked boring as all hell and I thought I'd be struggling to make it thru. I loved it. :dontknow:

Since then I've read the books as well and enjoyed them.

If the same basic plot devices as Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Matrix, etc. etc. The concept of the "Hero's Journey" was written by Joseph Campbell in 1949 with a book called "The Hero with a Thousand Faces".

Essentially Campbell explains that important myths from around the world which have survived for thousands of years all share a fundamental structure, which Campbell called the monomyth. Many great stories told throughout history follow the same basic structure. It's just something that connects with people.

A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.

George Lucas studied Campbell's writings and used them as a basic recipe for Star Wars. J.K Rowling presumably did the same.

Just what the fans want - a stupid play. Rowling is a total control freak.

I read Harry Potter before they were movies. I think the studio did a great job creating the world I was imagining

If you ever go to Harry Potter World at Universal you will see she is a wacko. All the "shops" are so small because that's how Rowling said they would have been in the book. Hundreds of people crammed into stores designed for 10 people - crazy.

Good thing, bad thing. Stephen King has had his name attached to a bunch of garbage that he had little to do with beyond selling to a studio and backing the truck up to get paid. It would devalue Rowling's franchise if something came out that was crap, so if she's allowed to, then why not put her foot down and say this won't do, should it be necessary?

The fans hated the Star Wars Prequels and Disney still paid $2+ billion for rights.

Some of the movies are cute at best, I think "Goblet of Fire" was the darkest and probably my favorite because the heels went over. The Horcruxes were kind of a stupid way of creating a weakness for Voldemort and most of the later movies were hard to follow if you hadn't read the books. Or, maybe I was just too old to enjoy them properly.
