I posted this on that other site, but I figured it was more suited for here. I liken the stages of being a Howard Stern fan being like a person dealing with the death of family member. There are five stages in deal with death and I think there are five stages of being a Stern fan:

Stage #1 - You are a die hard and you believe all the shit Howard says and think everything he does is genius. You talk about him with you buddies and co-workers and will watch him no matter what he is on whether it is Letterman or AGT. Howard never makes an appearance that isn't newsworthy.

Stage #2 - You admit the show isn't as good as it used to be, but it still the best thing on radio. Hey, Tradio calls aren't Jackie Puppet bits, but they are still hilarious.

Stage #3 - You admit show really has gone down in quality, but Howard evolved. You defend his evolution to haters, but you are a casual listener. You rationalize it that Howard is 60 and he can't be the same guy when he was 40 and if someone can't handle it, it is something wrong with them - not Howard.

Stage #4 - You start to realize how fake the show is and how full of shit Howard is and aren't willing to listen to the shit anymore. David Arquette is on again? Does Howard have any non-famous friends? I thought Beth didn't want to be famous? Shuli and Scott are still fighting over Scott's cut of the Block Parties even though Scott quit the Block Parties over a year ago?

Stage #5 - You realize the show and Howard has become a farce and you find out it is more fun to make fun of how ridiculous he has become than actually listen to the show. Register for a Dawg membership. It's a wig!

Everything is right except for those stupid Tradio calls which as someone once pointed out here are fake because the Tradio people are in on the joke and like the publicity. They're still under the impression that Howard has a lot of listeners I guess.

Stage 3 is more of a recent phenomenon. Depending on when you realized how full of shit Howard is, you might not have been able to enjoy that phase.

I never thought he was a genius. For a while, he recognized the value of his in-studio team and Howard did a very good job milking the best out of his contributors.

Ever since Howard fell in love with himself, the show has suffered badly.

STAGE 2 should have been denial. There were plenty of signs Howard was really a duechebag, even back in the golden days. We ignored them. Pretended it was just schtick and stuck our head in the sand.

How he treated Soupy Sales at WNBC.
Exploiting retards, dwarves and deformed people.
After destroying DeBella, how he continued to kick the guy when he was down (setting up a date with John's ex and Captain Janks for example).
Using people, exploiting their weakness' and then turning his back on them (Artie, Hank, etc.)
His insane jealousy of others success.
His demonizing of Jackie for trying to get a small portion of all the marbles pouring in. I personally didn't buy into this one and I saw it for what it was.
His always playing the victim blaming others for his failures (the unmade Fartman movie for one).

Didn't Jeff the Drunk call him out on this about a month or so ago? "Why do you hate it when I try to better my life?" or something to that effect.
I didn't hear it but I read about it.

good post. don't forget his running to Mel like a pussy on two networks to muzzle Opie and Anthony from ostracizing him the way he did Mark and Brian, DiBella, The Greaseman, etc.

and he was so fucking cheap he wouldn't even give Jackie a piece of the eshow money, even though his funny mostly was being delivered by Jackie's finger cots.

And Fartman? He couldn't make the movie because the entity he actually stole the concept from, The National Lampoon wouldn';t sign off on a release. He should have been thanking them for not enjoining him from plagiarizing this shtick at all.

And his crusade against Leno? He hated that Leno paid him back by stealing a low cost stutterer as his announcer after Stern disrespected him with the lesbos on the show. But Leno, actually being the people's choice and a much bigger star, ignored Stern's tirades heard by a diminishing few, essentially treating him as "irrelevant." How maddening was that?

And getting a writer fired for writing something negative (realistic) about his trophy whorse? All the while calling the multi talented and naturally beautiful and smart Amanda Peet a "cunt" ad nauseum.

The hero worship of this guy is ridiculous! There must have been NOTHING on the radio wherever you are. I feel extremely lucky I could hear a lot of great stuff back in the day.

2)2000-present Many marbles allow him to employ an army of yes men.Becomes Know it all. Mental illness off the charts. Dancing monkee no longer entertaining.
3)Watching from a distance as he morphs into a anorexic woman.
