A teen was killed in an accidental shooting at a Florida gun range on Sunday.

Sarasota County sheriffs responded to the High Noon Gun Range at about 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, after a 14-year-old boy suffered serious injuries from a bullet wound.

The unidentified boy was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, but died from the gun blast.

Owners at the gun store declined to comment to the Daily News, and said sheriffs were still on scene investigating the shooting.

On the store’s website, High Noon Guns calls itself “Sarasota’s #1 Indoor, Air Conditioned Range,” describing the shooting spot as relaxing and comfortable.

The store boasts nine indoor lanes for shooters. When the gun range was built in 2013, the Herald Tribune called it the "safest indoor shooting range ever designed," with strategically placed armored steel plates to take on stray rounds and prevent ricochets.

"It's as safe as we could make it," owner John Buchan told the local newspaper.

The range offers free shooting for visitors under 18, as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

A testimony on the range's website by Sarasota resident Dawn Estes claimed the gun haven was a great place to bring your kids.

"Some Gun Ranges can be a little intimidating for women, but at High Noon Gun Range, women and children are welcomed and there is a relaxed atmosphere, although safety is paramount and guidance is always available," Estes wrote.

Sarasota sheriffs said the boy would be identified once his family has been notified, as the investigation continues.

I shoot a lot and I worry about this stuff all the time. People go shooting for "fun", but it really is a very serious and dangerous activity. I see guys bring their gf's with pink guns like on a date and everyone is giggling. I'm like, this is not a giggling activity; you guys should go bowling.

    This.

Smart people who introduce others to the shooting sports are stressing the safety rules continuously - from before you arrive at the range until the car ride home. It only takes a single moment's inattention to turn a good time into a tragedy. The frustrating part to these stories is that there are relatively few safety rules and following them is simple. You just have to keep harping on them over and over and over again until following them becomes as natural as breathing.

Teen accidentally killed at gun range by dad's bullet, police say
    [IMG]
Authorities say a 14-year-old died after being shot on July 3, 2016, at High Noon Guns range in Sarasota, Florida.

    WTSP-TV
SARASOTA, Fla. -- A teenager who died after a shooting at a Florida gun rangeon Sunday was killed accidentally by his father, police said Monday.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that they concluded the shooting at the High Noon Gun Shop was not intentional based on witness statements and video.

According to police, Stephen J. Brumby, 14, and his dad, William C. Brumby, 64, were practicing in a shooting lane against a wall when the accident took place.

"After firing a round, the spent shell casing struck the wall causing it to deflect and fall into the back of (the elder) Mr. Brumby's shirt. Brumby then used his right hand, which was holding the handgun, in an attempt to remove the casing. While doing so, he inadvertently pointed the firearm directly behind him and accidently fired," a police statement reads.

Brumby's two other children, a 24-year-old son and a 12-year-old daughter, were also present and uninjured, police said.

    No charges have been filed.

A local who frequented the gun range told CBS Tampa affiliate WTSP-TV that the incident is unusual.

"It's quite surprising, because the owners are very professional," said Goichi Matsumoto who works in the same shopping plaza and has shot in the range before. "I wouldn't have thought something like this would happen here."

Last month on the businesses Facebook Page, there was a post of a meme of a child holding a rifle. The meme reading "Properly trained kids don't have accidents."

Exactly! But lots of photos of the scary rifles for sale. If this article doesn't scream biased, nothing does.

Dad's a moron. Blame Florida, not guns.

Think. What motion does your trigger finger make when you're trying to pick a casing out of your shirt pocket while holding the weapon?

I'm know the Dad has to live with the memory of killing his own kid for the rest of his life, but if the description above is accurate, then he should be charged with something. I've had hot shell casings go down my shirt, yea it sucks but you CAN'T point a gun behind you ever.

    Stupid!

I've been hit with hot brass etc. It's hot, but the first rule at a range is, no matter what, put the firearm down first.

SARASOTA (CBS12) — A 14-year-old boy is dead after getting accidentally shot by his father at a gun range.

It happened Sunday afternoon at the High Noon Gun Range.

Authorities said a spent shell casing ricocheted and landed in the shirt of the boy's father. As the father reached behind him to grab the casing that was stuck in the back of his shirt, his gun fired. The bullet struck his son.

The boy has been identified by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office as Stephen J. Brumby. Investigators are calling the shooting an accident and boy's father won't face any charges.
