This is up in the panhandle. The killer was being served with a domestic violence order. He fled to a motel and was killed when he charged out of his room.

    Okaloosa deputy dies after shooting
    Kevin Robinson, pnj.com 3:56 p.m. CDT September 22, 2015

The Okaloosa County deputy who was shot by a suspect this morning has died, according to a press release from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputy Bill Myers, 64, died at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. The longtime veteran of the OCSO had rejoined the agency to serve part-time after retiring in 2013, after nearly 25 years with the agency. He was rehired on a part-time basis in January to assist with Civil Process.

Investigators say Myers had just finished serving a domestic violence injunction to Joel Dixon Smith, 33, of Navarre at Cotton and Gates Law Fire on Plew Avenue around 8:20 a.m. Myers was walking outside when he was shot multiple times in the back, including a gunshot wound to the rear of his head.

According to reports, Smith then drove to the Comfort Inn and Suites in Niceville, where he barricaded himself inside a room.

The OCSO Special Response Team responded and evacuated the building, setting up a perimeter.

After an hour and a half of negotiations, the suspect came out of his room with a weapon at 11:13 a.m. Deputies responded and the suspect was struck and taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center where he later died. No members of the SRT Unit were injured.

OMG I am getting trauma fatigue from all the killing!!!

    Seriously.

My former mailman was also the Union rep.

He said that the shooting started when the Post Office started to really pressure them on the time they took to do their routes.

    Interesting.

Seems like "Civil Process" would be dangerous as fuck- serving orders and shit. Worse than writing traffic tickets.

It is dangerous and for some reason they seem to put the old guys that are getting close to retirement in those positions. They are also the ones that have to serve evictions and there have been plenty of incidents where people go ape shit and start shooting when they arrive to throw them out of the house.

It can be dangerous. For a while, I worked for a private investigations company, and sometimes would have to process serve. Fortunately, there were never any major altercations. People would usually say, "Fuck, how'd you guys find me?" after I gave them the paperwork. It didn't take long before I would use a "Pro-Flowers" box, and peeps would think I was some floral delivery guy, or I'd put the papers in a Domino's Pizza box; people open the door when they think they're getting free pizza.
