NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Bob Welch, a former member of Fleetwood Mac who also had a solo career, died Thursday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. He was 65.

Police spokesman Don Aaron said Welch's wife found him with a chest wound at their south Nashville home around 12:15 p.m.
Welch was a guitarist and vocalist for Fleetwood Mac from 1971 to 1974. He formed the British rock group Paris in 1976, and had hits including "Sentimental Lady" in 1977 and "Ebony Eyes" in 1978. Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham did backing vocals on "Sentimental Lady."

Aaron said Welch apparently had had health issues recently. He said a suicide note was left.

Read that this morning. Major bummer. Story said he'd recently had spinal surgery and had been told it wasn't gonna be better and he didn't want to be an invalid and have his wife forced to care for him. :tears2:

Lines that really have meaning now.........

"Shorter of breath, And one day closer to death"

"Cause youths a mask, And it don't last, Live it long and live it fast"

RIP! The sad thing is that most people don't even know he was a member of Fleetwood Mac. He will be more remembered as Chris Rock said in that crappy movie Grown Ups for the "whites song ever" in Sentimental Lady (which was originally a Fleetwood Mac song that he rerecorded on his solo album).

I really dug the Peter Green version of the band.......They were a great contrast to the Sabbaths and Zeppelins.....

Peter Green kicked ass............wasn't Welch kind of a replacement for Green? I forget the chronology, but I think by the time Bare Trees rolled around Green was long gone. Welch missed out on the big paycheck by a couple of years.

Peter Green was an original member from the sixties.....But he kinda' had a Syd Barret moment and decided to shun the limelight and left the band unexpectedly.....Then came Welch.....Then Buckingham......Green had a really cool bluesy sound.........

I bought all of Welch's solo albums from the 70s up until the early 80s. I went back a few years ago and revisited his catalog and replaced my vinyl with his CDs. Bob was an odd, but talented dude. Many of his songs, as well as his website show a weird belief in alien visitation and other conspiracy type stuff. I checked his website this morning and it's still up in all it's bizarro, geocities glory. Check it out before it gets updated/taken down.
