Thinking of buying one.
Any suggestions? Any advice?
I thought for sure this was going to be about Parisian journalists.
I got nothin.
Do you have a good burr grinder with variable settings? Do you buy quality, fresh-roasted beans?
If not then don't bother. If so, try the Aeropress instead.
I was in a Goodwill and found it. 32oz, all glass. I got it for 3 bucks!
i will look into this. i do have a good burr grinder, but i don't use it often. Ain't nobody got time for that.
It'll make your breff stank
For a French Press you need coarse ground coffee. If you don't grind your own fresh-roasted beans then you don't give a fuck about a good cup of joe and a French Press is wasted on you.
Coffee snobs insist you need one but it seems like a lot of work. I'm interested for somebody to post how simple and non-time consuming it is. I like to be able to just set up the coffee maker at night and set the timer for it to start 30 minutes before I have to wake up.
Bodum is a great brand. Just get one from Amazon. 8-cup is a good size.
Remember to use coarsely ground coffee beans for the French Press, otherwise it can taste very silty.
Then you don't have time for French press.
My Keurig machine broke this morning and I just bought like $40 worth of those stupid little K-cups.
THIS R2-D2 FRENCH PRESS WILL PUT THE BEEP BACK IN YOUR BOOP
We here at Nerdist.com get excited when any sort of Star Wars merchandise comes to our attention. In fact, “get overly jazzed about something Star Wars related” might as well be on all of our daily to-do lists. It’s an extra special treat for us when something comes out that’s actually aimed at adult SW fans. Enter; the R2-D2 French Presscoffee maker.
Brought to our attention via a post on Gizmodo, this astromech press is sure to make morning better proving that everyone needs an R2 unit by their side. This coffee droid can serve up to 32 ounces (4 cups) of caffeinated goodness to fuel the minds of your rebel alliance.
What’s nice about the design is how, despite clearly being a piece of Star Wars merchandise, it doesn’t seem cobbled together or unbalanced between form and function. Good ol’ cylindrical R2-D2 is the obvious choice for a French press design, as other droids just aren’t shaped correctly. What we really love is the fact they didn’t paint over Artoo’s entire body (torso?) and instead went with only accents of his design on the dishwasher safe glass carafe. This allows for a rather nice look when he’s filled to the brim with your favorite brew.
According to Thinkgeek.com, the press will be available to order for $39.99 starting in early November 2016. A bit pricey compared to other 32oz French presses on the market? Maybe, but let’s face it, they aren’t nearly as cool as this one. Plus, it’s substantially better than the otherhousehold products that some droids decided to get in on.
dayum, lotsa snobs in this thread.
My folks have had this one for over 10 years. over 13.000 coffees and still going. Had to be serviced twice in its lifetime.
Once you get used to this, filter coffee tastes like shit.
$800!? I'll take my trusty 12 cup coffee maker for $15
I got one for $20 for a backup at tarjjjjjay.
i never think to go there for some reason...i should check it out.
The reviews are glowing
"The machine is junk. Bought it from whole latte love and 2 months later it broke.
Paid shipping both ways $100 for them to fix it under "warrantee" and it came back broken.
Do not buy this machine"
"Don't be swayed by any positive reviews for this product.DON'T BUY IT MOVE ON. YES IT'S CHEAPER ON WHOLE LATTE LOVE BUT DON'T DO IT. THAT COMPANY IS AS BAD AS THIS PRODUCT. I WILL BUY A MR. COFFEE BEFORE I EVER ALLOW THIS PIECE OF JUNK TAKE UP SPACE ON MY KITCHEN COUNTER!!!
I'm tellin you the bad reviews are actually being nice. This thing is beyond bad. I just really can't express in clean language how bad this product is."
