Everyone here rocks, but damn, enough of the millennial crap ha. I have to stand up here after all the hate and getting trashed on. Like many millennials, I bust my ass, always have. o_O

Why some are soft? I'm guessing...

    http://www.momstimeout.com/gen-x-parents-what-were-we-thinking/2/
    http://elitedaily.com/life/the-10-reasons-why-generation-y-is-soft/

    What generation X was...

"We wore our house keys around our necks like dog tags, walked home from school alone and let ourselves inside while our parents were still at work. We crossed busy intersections during rush hour to purchase bubble gum cigarettes with change from empty soda cans.

Our playgrounds were construction sites, heaps of dirt, creeks filled with snakes and turtles we collected as pets. We climbed trees, muddied our Garanimals, scaled fences between neighbors’ backyards. We spent Memorial Day to Labor Day barefoot, the soles of our feet blackened like coal, dirt clumping underneath our toenails. Skateboards, roller skates and bikes defined our boundaries."

    Now Generation X...

"We cart our children to chess, robotics, baseball practice, ballet, cello, swimming essons and birthday parties. Though they run our lives like lunatic ringmasters, we INSIST such activities make them well-rounded / social / intellectual / competitive / creative.

They are rarely out of our sights. They’re our extensions, buds hanging off our stems, the quality, durability, and character of their bloom wholly dependent on our careful, measured, intentional nurturing. We coddle. We stuff them into slings as babies, backpacks and strollers as toddlers, tie them with leashes as preschoolers and use GPS and apps to monitor their whereabouts as teens.

They sleep in our beds until middle school."

    Timeouts instead of spanking.
    "Positive discipline" and "parent guilt".
Coddling if a child did something wrong.
Teachers giving stickers for every thing a child does.
PARENTS getting offended when someone yelled at their child for something they did wrong.
A sense of self entitlement passed on to their kids.
Letting their kids worship and watch the Lohan's, the Kardashian's, Teen mom, etc.
Instead of giving out chores, they give in to endless video game play to appease their children and "not have to deal".
Giving out allowances for merely existing.

complaining too much about the next generation just means you've officially gotten really old. that's about it.

The kids who did these things,

Most certainly did not grow up to raise their kids like this.
I know this because the people I grew up with lived the life of that first paragraph and certainly don't treat their kids like priceless works of art as the last two paragraphs describe.

Well not every single one, but tons do. They admit to it in so many articles online. How could all these people who lived care free, raise such soft kids today and coddle them so much, if no one is raising them that way?

I can give you that. I did grow up in a very rural area of Montana, where nothing much changes from generation to generation. "Soft" kids and adults don't last long in that environment.

Gen X is nothing like the baby boomers. The baby boomers are the worst generation to walk this planet. self righteous hypocritical douchebags.
They destroyed this country then blame it on everyone else. The give me give me take anything i can get my hands on whiny bitch generation.

I have no clue what generation I would be in,(53yo) but I can tell you that my parents weren't easy on me. They never gave me any false hope that being an adult was great and I could do anything I wanted blah blah blah. Instead, they showed me what it was like to work hard for the things I wanted, to appreciate the things I had, and most importantly, how to treat others. I tried to do the same as a parent, but it's real easy to fall into the trap of wanting your kids to have things better than you did growing up and making things simpler for them. Thankfully, all mine seem to have their heads on straight and are hard working, respectful young adults despite me.
