Teammate's punch breaks jaw of Jets QB Geno Smith Geno Smith will not open the regular season as the Jets' starting quarterback, and it has nothing to do with his performance in training camp. Coach Todd Bowles said linebacker IK Enemkpali "sucker-punched" Smith in the locker room on Tuesday morning and broke the QB's jaw, per ESPN.com's Rich Cimini. He needs surgery and will miss six-to-10 weeks. The two apparently got into an argument and Enemkpali decided he needed to clock the team's starting quarterback in the face. It's a stunning turn that means Ryan Fitzpatrick will likely begin this year as the starter. It seemed like Smith was making promising strides during training camp, but this is obviously a major setback. The club released Enemkpali after the incident, Newsday's Kimberley Martin reports.
