In the “Empire Strike Back,†Yoda admonishes Luke Skywalker for spending his life dreaming of the future, “never his mind on where he was … what he was doing.†But at 68, George Lucas, the creator of the “Star Wars†saga, seems to be doing much thinking about the years ahead – in fact, experts say, his decision to sell his company to Disney DIS +1.34% was an estate planning move worthy of a Jedi Master.

That Lucas struck a deal in 2012 may be no accident either, advisers say. Long-term capital gains tax from the sale of assets held more than one year are taxed at a rate of 15% for investors in the 25% income tax bracket or above (Lucas’s level), and zero for investors in the 10% or 15% bracket. Those rates are set to jump to 20% and 10%, respectively in January. “He probably wanted to take advantage of the lower rate on long-term capital gain while it’s certain,†says Bill Smith, managing director at CBIZ MHM, a national accounting and professional services provider.

I agree! Good for him that he paid less taxes. I am just sick of liberals taking advantage of the tax code for their benefit and then calling me selfish for wanting to do the same.

What happened to him? I thought the first few Star Wars were great and then the others completely blew. Plus he is such an asshole; it's a fact. Thirdly, he needs to get liposuction under his chin. I am not saying he needs to see Beth's surgeon, but that chin is other-worldly.

Kind of appropriate for the creator of a space opera, wouldn't you say? :jj:

Star Wars sucking was the reason i didnt watch TLOTR for the first 5-7 years it was out.

Figured it was just another hyped piece of shit.

    I ended up likeing TLOTR

    Star Trek FTW!

Why is this thread political? who is pissed that you take the same deductions they take?

Also I resent wealthy people telling me I need to pay more. I live in CA and get nothing for the outrageous taxes I pay.

If you think our government needs more, then feel free to kick in a couple mil to the general fund instead of spending 40 mil getting a prop passed A-holes.

Thank you for indulging me Saloon friends.

I have too much family here to justify moving my little kid, he has a good life here.
CA is a wasteland and it breaks my heart to say that. It was such a beautiful, prosperous state.
we are counting the days until we can leave. :sadbye2:

    Idaho/Washington maybe?
