how much do all the governments in the world owe?

    http://www.nationaldebtclocks.org

The U.S. Is currently at between 17-20trillion. Which sounds huge, because it is. The entire world owes only $60 trillion. Yeah, we own 1/3 of the debt of the entire world.

The link also shows gdp. At first I was impressed at the U.S. Then I scrolled up to Slovakia and Slovenia (so much gdp with so few people). Then China dropped the mother load. A full 800x that of the U.S. At $8 quadrillion / year.

We're at debt/income parity while China earns more than the rest of the world combined... Oofa

I don't want to sound glib but ... So what?

If anyone fucks with us we wipe the debt and say fuck off, nationalize any foreign US investment and pull the curtain down and weather the storm.

Over simplified of course but really it's just dots on a spreadsheet

To expand with energy independence and our own natural resources we don't starve

For a nation dependent on others natural resources its a huge issue for us not so much

This is not correct, China's GDP is 8 trillion, the US is 17 trillion. By the way, way to go Canada....50% debt to GDP ratio, one of the lowest on the list.

Canada is fairly conservative with their finances, and they have a lot of oil wealth. The current low oil prices have put the country into recession, however.

They have made some smart moves which we should mirror.

Hint: always check your math before making outrageous assertions. If China had 800x the financial power of the USA, do you think we'd be able to tell them what to do....ever?

Part of the reason Canada is doing so well is that it is snuggled up to the baddest military on the planet.

No need for this to spend a shit load on defense as they know their big brother would not hesitate to knock the snot out of anyone for them

By the way isn't universal health care and higher taxes supposed to kill an economy? Looks like that isn't happening in Canada eh?

Yes Canada has some advantages like oil, access to the US market, reliance on US military, but don't kid yourself, in the 80 and early 90's we were well on our way to becoming the next Greece and what saved us was cuts in government spending to balance the budget. Lots of these cuts included cuts to entitlement programs like unemployment insurance, welfare, etc.

Canada is either 4th or 5th in the world in oil production with a population smaller than California. Canada has very few deadbeat immigrants to carry, and a small military.

Canada has the world's 3rd largest oil reserves.

They have a sweet setup, and their success isn't necessarily related to their choices.

I read this AM that 76% of US immigrant families are on welfare, and Obama is welcoming more and more into the country.

how come no one mocked republicans for welcoming them. everyone was PC before trump said its OK.

my friend moved to canada, and he had to wait i think 6 months to get a job. the company who wanted to hire him had to post a public ad and only if no qualified canadians applied, could they hire him.
    maybe we could have that

Fortunately for them, they don't maintain a global military/police force so their defense budget is only 12 billion compared to our 610 billion. It would be nice if they and Western Europe would pitch in once in a while for the defense of the hemisphere.

The "miracle" of derivatives. This is Deutsche Bank compared to German GDP. JPM has 70 trillion in exposure.
