I have an old set of Ping irons and a Nike Driver but what's good these days? I have a budget of $1,600. Ill hang up and listen.
What's your handicap? If you are a 0-8 you can't go wrong with the new Mizuno JPX 825 irons. Thin top line, minimal offset, very forgiving for a players club. If you have a higher handicap, look at the the Taylormade R11 irons. The hottest driver out now is the ping Anser, and the Taylormade Rocket Ballz. I have both and like the Rocket Ballz a little better, the rocke Ballz 3 wood is also extremely long.
I have always mixed and matched my sets (i know people hate that) i only play titlest volkey wedges, callaway irons, taylor made woods and scotty cameron putter cost is around $1700
Titleist AP2 irons TaylorMade Rocketballz fwy woods R11s or PINGs latest driver, also Adams new driver is good E bay has killer deals
what model ping irons? if they are just old, clean em up. if they are worn out, send em back to ping and they will make them look new. as far as drivers go, COR is maxed so it comes down to what fits your eye and what shaft you have in it. the technology in fairways goes to Adama or Taylormade (same company btw). they have fairways woods hot as fuck now and near max COR. dump the long irons and get hybrids, another nod to TM or Adams. as far as wedges go, try and get the old grooves if you can, there are plenty on eBay. good luck and hit em well.
i did the next best thing....i surrendered to golf now i never get upset about how i play cause golf is bigger than me
best thing to do is play with a few different sets and see what you are most comfortable with don't buy the hype
