Got laid off about a month ago, again and have an interview at 4:00 with the GM and the owner. It's a retail store, a baby story in fact but it's a huge company and I'd be the marketing director.

I wish you the very best of luck bro. I have been blessed with a job for 9 years now. I can't even imagine having to look for a job right now.

Thanks a ton brother! I'm actually blessed to have found this job when I did because last time I was laid off, it was 10 months of looking. That really takes it's toll on you and it's real shitty living with my girl and not being able to pull my weight.

Same here, Dawg. I've been with this guy for about 8 years now. And at my age, in this market? Not to mention there's only about 3 geothermal companies in the entire state. Lots of companies sell it, but they sub it all out.
I'd have to go back to doing conventional hvac, IF I could find a job. :ohnoes:

definitely lucky to have long careers. I've jumped around a bit over the last few years but not really by choice. it sucks to have to start from square 1 but i'm really hoping this gig is what i want and will stick with. i love graphic design and marketing, it's what I know and this is a great opportunity.

    what do you do Spazz?

I install geothermal heating and cooling. Me and my son (who you'll get to know here as budman) work together.

nice. that's great you get to work with your son, i'm sure it's not always tea and roses but it's a nice thing a lot of people don't get the chance to do. i'll be sure to give budman the respect he deserves as Spazz Jr!

He's a good kid. I'm just glad I could teach him a trade that's going to go nowhere but up. Everyone wants to get away from the oil/gas man. :D

Went great, expecting an offer today!!! I'm nervous because it's a big gig and a lot of responsibility but it's an amazing opportunity and I'm stoked to be working again.

Good luck bro. The job market is so tough right now. It seems things are going to get worse before they get better. Iv'e been pushing my kids toward jobs at FEMA, Department of Homeland Security, NOA, and other government jobs. Computers are tough because things change so quick, and it seems pay has been dropping.

Spazz, I have a heat pump/ AC system. Gas prices are kind of high, and there is no such thing as heating oil here. Should I just stick with the heat pump setup? It's about 8 years old and I don't know how long this type of system lasts.

Considering your location, I'd stick with the heat pump. They usually last about 15 years or so. Sometimes longer, if well maintained.
Spend the money and have it serviced once a year, including cleaning the condenser coil. Changing your filter regularly will increase the life of the blower motor.
When mowing, make sure to blow the clippings away from the condenser.
And if weed whacking, do it when the unit is NOT running.

Thanks Spazz. I have it serviced once a year. The only problem I ever had with it was a capacitor about a year ago.
