Christian Killoran of Remsenburg, New York, wants his 12-year-old son, who has Down syndrome, to attend the same middle school as his friends and siblings, but says the Westhampton Beach School District will not let Aiden Killoran in.

But his dad says he plans to show up at the school on the first day, Wednesday, with Aiden and supporters. The school had requested a temporary restraining order to keep the Killorans off school property. In U.S. District Court on Monday, the family and the school reached an agreement that a restraining order would not be needed.

    What!? Hamptonites love inclusion programs.

As long as it's the little people's schools that are the ones being inclusive.

Isn't it amazing? I'm often in shock at the piss-poor quality of articles I'm reading.

No doubt my man, I read stuff and it doesn't say anything for paragraphs. Then 8 paragraphs in you find out it is a private school or something and up your like no story here. Newspapers suck that's why I dknt get them anymore I only miss the crossword puzzle that's it

The article doesn't even state the nature of the school! The first line should be something like "public school or private school denies"

We had a retardo in 4th grade, because his parents said he needed to be near regular kids. It ruined the learning experience because he had to have the teacher explain everything in detail over and over again. Was not fair for this kid to be in our class or him to be on ours. Last I heard he is still trying to learn his times tables and is retrying 5th grade for the last 40 years.

my guess would be simply the school does not have the staff to meet the student's needs adequately and it would be a disservice to both him and his other students to mainstream him

That particular school is probably not certified for special ed. Plus, did the kid even pass the 5th grade to begin with?

Jesus. Is it wise to give out coordinates like that? Makes it kinda easy for a missile strike or something. Right? :wtf:

The article said it was the middle school. Maybe there's more than one and one of them is geared up for special ed ... or a regional one that is. This is quite the tenses.

Think it's about time they change their school mascot. Hurricanes have killed and hurt people for centuries and I'm very offended by this. :fil:

Assholes--some kids need to be in a separate specialized environment --however, a Down's Syndrome student can be in a mainstream class with no problem

That point was made in the comments section.

The district has a Special Needs school with trained educators and a different environment. It sucks for the Down Syndrome kid, but you can't expect to have an army of special teachers in every classroom for just one kid.

change the "special needs" to black-- It doesn't fly, public schools are supposed to make accommodations for kids with special needs, they aren't supposed to warehouse them
