Just three months after Grooveshark shut down amidst a series of copyright infringement lawsuits, co-founder Josh Greenberg has been found dead at his Gainesville, Florida, home. He was 28.

Greenberg's body was discovered in his bed Sunday night by his girlfriend, with whom he shared a house, reported Gainesville.com.

The Gainsville Police Department's official Twitter page confirmed Greenberg's death, and stated that there was "no evidence of foul play or suicide."

His mother, Lori Greenberg, told the local news site that she was informed by police there was no evidence of injuries or drugs, adding that her son had never been sick a day in his life. The medical examiner's autopsy found no explanation for a cause of death, but toxicology results will take two or three months. "They are as baffled as I am," Lori said.

The tech entrepreneur founded Grooveshark at the age of 19 along with Sam Tarantino at the University of Florida. At the company's peak, Grooveshark employed 145 people.

The controversial free streaming site, which once boasted 35 million users, shut down in April following a series of copyright infringement lawsuits by record companies for failing to receive permission for hosting music.

Greenberg's mother said he was more relieved than depressed following the company's closure, and was "excited about potential new things."

Josh Greenberg, co-founder of #Grooveshark was found dead in his Gainesville home Sunday evening. No evidence of foul play or suicide.

Eddy Vasquez, 27, who had been with Grooveshark since 2011 and served as director of international sales, was allegedly shot twice in the chest by 26-year-old Andres Rodriguez Torres, a friend and former classmate of his at the University of South Florida.

The two were reportedly bar-hopping to celebrate Torres' birthday when an argument broke out at a Publix supermarket.

    WCJB-TV has more:

While visiting St. Petersburg, Vasquez was shot in the chest after a verbal argument with Andres Torres. Torres was arrested at his apartment and a firearm was recovered. "It's awful cause Eddy is a young guy like we're all young and we don't think that we're not going to see each other again and the fact that he was murdered is just unbelievable... I just really can't believe it," Mitchell said.

Grooveshark, devastated by the loss released a statement that reads: "Grooveshark as a company mourns the tragic loss of one of its employees, Eddy D. Vasquez. Mr. Vasquez was visiting friends and family in the Tampa Bay area over the weekend when he fell victim to a senseless act of violence."

Police say Torres also grabbed a witness and took him back to his apartment. He was arrested around 9 a.m. Saturday on charges of armed kidnapping and second-degree murder.

It was a lesser known online streaming service like Pandora or Spotify. The reason it gained popularity was because with a jailbroken iphone, you could download the songs and import them directly into Itunes. Almost as good as the Napster days. From what I've been told....

This pic is fascinating.... it's like standing on top of the Grand Canyon, it's a beautiful view from the top, when suddenly you fall off the edge, and the closer you get to the bottom, the more terrifying it is.

Grooveshark was Spotify before Spotify. It was all free. No commercials. It boasted the largest library of music before all the streaming services came along. They had all popular and obscure music. The only downside was the music was not categorized that well. I discovered a ton of music on it. Sad.

This dude created a service with 35 million members who instead of purchasing from the artists and record companies could essentially have it for free. That clears it up for me. He should not have had anything to worry about. For a minute, I thought there might be some people somewhere who might be potentially pissed at the guy for costing them, say, millions of dollars.
