Four comedians in studio at once. Five if Norton counts. Guests were free to hang, come or go as they pleased. Hammond left, came back later (Did he do another show, or just step out for a smoke?) Pretty good radio. Opie didn't add much, but he knows enough that if you have good guests just STFU and let them talk!

You said there where comedians, Leno and Hammond may count.
Still better than Wolfie and Handsome Hung Howie.

Sweet - eventually they will be successful enough to buy Howard's Hamptons tool shed.

B-b-b-but that mean ol Jay Leno stole the Tonight Show from letterman.. and stole Stuttering John from sweet, generous Howard.

No, listen... the show is better than it's ever been. I know 4 construction workers that had to pull their cars over on their way to work because they were simultaneously laughing and jerking off.

Are you one of the unpaid interns? Because no normal person or a fan of the pre Sirius days would ever say that.

For the first week in decades, I didn't listen to a minute of THSS -- I'm very much enjoying Opie and Jim. Not one cock story so far.

Nor any fake phony calls, Bernie/Hillary/Trump impersonators, or any other fake morning zoo-type shit. Scott Shannon actually has a more honest show hese days.

I listened while I worked -- all the way through without having to change to another channel because of those awful phony calls or stupid "bits." I think I may have turned the corner. They're funny and topical (don't have to wait a month for discussion of a by-then old news story).

When not listening to Howard, I prefer Cumia over O&J, as Ant can hold his own with most comics. I miss Ant and Chippah going at it.

I've grown to like O&J too. But I think Jimmy is gone in October.

Listening to the show now. Leno just showed up.

Leno fascinates me. I don't know if a bigger phony exists. I've listened to multiple interviews with him and he always has the same exact stories, told virtually verbatim, over and over.

I do like his car show, though. Watched a lot of them on YouTube.

    This PowerWagon is sick!

    To be fair:

Gaffigan - not funny and has already been on Howard (not that he cares)

    Hammond -- already been on

    Leno - yeah right

    Henley- who?

The point is, the scenario described is what back in the old days often created the best Howard material: Comedians, such as Jackie (later Artie), Billy and guest comedians, just sitting around (often during the news) riffing. Even if a particular comedian wasn't the funniest guy on his own, it was the mix of everyone throwing out lines and trying to top each other that made THSS must listen radio.

Agreed. Some of the best Sternthology moments are when Gilbert and Artie would just start going off during the news. Even Corolla and Kimmel (before he became Howard's BFF) would just hang out and make fun of celebrities, lame interviews, etc.

Howard is now one of those celebrities and never makes fun of anyone. This is why he is relegated to bullying his own staff members day after day after day.

You know who used to bully their staff members on the air for laughs back in the day?
    Regis and Kathie Lee.
    Oh, the irony.
