Yo, Im looking for an AR15 style rifle……what say you on make/caliber/features and why. Let's just say that money is no object (it is but I'll pay for quality). I'm only talking the base rifle here…..I'll equip it how I like over time. I just wanted a solid start.

Originally I was going to purchase a lever action rifle because I always wanted one (cool factor) and to limit the amount of different types of ammo I'd have to "stockpile" but I've decided an AR is likely the better choice for capacity and customization.

Go with whatever has the best reliability and cheapest ammo.

    This is my question. :coffee:

Cheapest ammo isn't as important to me as stopping power is. I'm sure they'll all due in that regard though. I'm only looking to "stockpile" what I could easily carry in a backpack and an ammo can for the vehicle.

Don't know too much about it but my brother put one together with parts he bought over the internet. Everything except for the lower receiver was purchased over the internet and I think it cost him under $1,000 but I could be wrong.

I think he got most of his info from ar 15 . com

You obviously don't know the cops I work with. :nojj:

It's just a more opinions to send me in a direction for my own research. I'm kinda starting from square one for an AR and already know what they use at work and a few opinions of personal preference. I just like to get educated as much as possible.

First of all I'm not a douche. Go with something not too expensive like the Bushmaster or the Smith & Wesson M&P 15. The reason I say this is because you're going to upgrade later, I guarantee it.

You could man up and get a Tavor. Same round as the AR (5.56) but bullpup design. :thumbup2:

    Debateable. :coffee:

I don't want to buy something where I have to upgrade the barrel or whatever. That's what I mean by a solid start. I won't modify the base……just choose my optics and a few other doodads.
