    Geez,

Matt gets a multimillion dollar signing bonus, a raise to $25M per year, a 4-day work week and free transportation to and from his house in the Hampton's. It's to bad for Matt that Comcast purchased a majority of NBC from G.E last year or he could sue for a merger bonus. Is Matt now going to declare himself a "Partner" or be content to earn $125M for the next 5 years as an employee.

    Anything else Ann?

the only glaring difference is that matt lauer works and tries to do the right thing for the company and the viewers.....howard does neither.....

What's next, is Matt going to lobby to be a judge on "The Voice" to be seen as relevant?

Really is sickening that someone who's supposed to be a journalist would get that kind of deal, he basically does the same thing Regis did but for a few more hours.

It's amazing how a meager talent like Lauer can command that kind of contract. The execs are so scared of disturbing the routine that viewers are used to, no one dares to be held responsible for any change that might drop the numbers even slightly or temporarily.

this. matt lauer is very bland and non threatening. i will never understand how and why some people manage to attain undeserved fame and fortune without any discernible talent (oprah, lauer, katie couric, diane sawyer, seacrest, etc).
at least lauer is a company man and to my knowledge hasn't sued nbc (yet).

It seems like a lot of cash for a show where he could be replaced by another talking head - maybe NBC paid Matt that kind of money because he has a notebook full of ideas for the show.

The morning shows are so damn profitable. More viewers than Letterman and Leno. They don't have to pay for a band. No writing staff. There really isn't much to do preparing the show. Everyone is calling the producer to get on show to sell a book, movie or themselves if they are running for office.

Was he ever a "journalist?" I thought he was a landscaper or something before they plucked him off the lawn and pushed him in front of a teleprompter.

--Yeah, the Today show makes a freakin fortune. NBC is probably paying Matt too little.

--The reason ratings on Today are down is because of Ann CUrry. She'll be gone soon.

--Yeah, Lauer is bland. And so is Seacrest. But being bland and non-threatening is hard work. Besides, most people want bland and non-threatening. Most people hate edginess.

--Lauer and Seacrest are one in a million talents. They deserve every penny. Their jobs look easy, but when you see other people attempt it (See The X Factor, or all the people CBS fired), then you appreciate their ability.

--What is the story of Lauer and the Stern show? Wasn't he down on his luck and a frequent caller to the show, and on the verge of going into gardening? Or do I have it all wrong.
