Is this a good or bad time to go out to the mall?
Can I let down my guard or should I add more guard (wink-wink)

Maulana Karenga created Kwanzaa in 1966 as the first specifically African-American holiday.Karenga said his goal was to "give Blacks an alternative to the existing holiday and give Blacks an opportunity to celebrate themselves and their history, rather than simply imitate the practice of the dominant society." The name Kwanzaa derives from the Swahili phrase matunda ya kwanza, meaning "first fruits of the harvest". During the early years of Kwanzaa, Karenga said that it was meant to be an alternative to Christmas.

Oh jeez. It's not even based on some old-timey miracles or anything??
It's just a chance for blacks to have their own thing, albeit it completely meaningless.

Where everyone gives gifts for 12 days that express the principles of kwanza, but as he felt blacks could not afford to do this before Xmas because the prices were too high and kwanzarians are too poor, the holiday would start the day after Xmas when Xmas stuff is half price.

The guy who created it was a militant black college professor from the 1960s, sort of a black panther type except he could read. He felt the white man's Xmas was intentionally designed to prevent his people from taking part in the holiday due to the high costs.
