...indian had 100 dealerships to harley davidsons 11 dealerships even after harley won the first endurance race. riders could be replaced the only thing that disqualified you was if your bike couldnt make it anymore.

As a motorcycle fan I'll break it down for those who are not.

Harley Davidson started out by trying to be more inventive and innovative than their competitors. By competing head to head against rival manufacturers to prove who was fastest and best.

Fast forward 100 years and Harley Davidson are known for being anything buy innovative. Clinging to designs that are antiquated and unchanged for decades. Known now for being big, heavy, and slow.

    The end

I think the war Era changed their perspective and they became more focused on reliability and dependability.

The ones I have owned and continue to own are the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned. But that is just my experience.

at least HD is still around. getting it away from AMF, getting Regan to slap a big tariff on the big Japanese bikes and buying the softtail rear suspension design from Bill Davis is all it took LOL

They must be onto something, they're bikes maintain very good value, unlike the Japanese bikes.

Because when you are buying a motorcycle, resale values are the key factor

I wouldn't say that AMF was all bad. They didn't know anything about making motorcycles but the fact remains if AMF hadn't kept HD going when it did it wouldn't be here today.

They weren't any more or any less reliable than the Japanese or European bikes. They all break down.

I thought it was funny when they were bringing the bike to show an investor and it already had an oil leak. :snicker:

I was speaking on perspective and direction. You may be slightly retarded.
