It's too much to cut and paste, but there are some amazing tidbits of info here:

--Although Stern debuted with the advertising support of numerous major corporations, virtually all have fled from his show, leaving Miller Beer, Glaxo Wellcome's Valtrex (a drug for the treatment of genital herpes), and adult chat lines as the only consistent advertisers.

--During his morning radio show, just days after the tragedy at Columbine, while the nation was still overwhelmed by shock and grief, Stern callously suggested that the gunmen should have tried to have sex with some of "the good-looking girls" in the school. Referring to the videotape of students running from the school building, he said, "There were some really good-looking girls running out with their hands over their heads. Did [Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold] try to have sex with any of the good-looking girls? They didn't even do that? At least if you're going to kill yourself and kill all the kids, why wouldn't you have some sex? If I was going to kill some people, I'd take them out with sex."

--Stern's great expectations for the success of his program have proven to be profoundly off the mark. The Howard Stern Radio Show debuted with a respectable if uninspiring 2.7 rating, (compared to SNL's 7.9 in the twenty-seven markets where the two shows went head-to-head).13 The show's ratings dropped 22 percent the following week, while his audience share fell off 17 percent. In the same week, time slot competitor Saturday Night Live had earned a 6.4/17 share, easily trouncing Stern. His ratings have continued to plummet.

By his seventh week on the air, Stern's audience had fallen by 45 percent. By October, Stern Show ratings were down by 48 percent, and by April they had fallen a dramatic 63 percent from his debut the previous August. In Philadelphia alone, Stern's ratings fell by one half in just one week.14 New York Post writer Adam Buckman notes that when The Howard Stern Radio Showdebuted, it was ranked 33rd among all syndicated TV shows. Within eight months, his ranking had fallen to 107th of all syndicated TV shows "right down there with Bill Nye, The Science Guy."15

--January 23: Stern told a female guest who had offered to be his slave, "First of all, I'm gonna need you to pee in a diaper…I wanna roll you up naked in a…carpet and put you in a shopping cart and wheel you around the station… I want you to eat [dog food] out of a dog bowl…I want you to bend over…while I throw eggs at your buttocks… your bare buttocks…and possibly eat peanut butter from Jackie's [a regular Stern sidekick on the program] toes…You're lucky I'm not asking you for sex." Just before smashing eggs on the guest's buttocks, Stern told a colleague, "It's fun to humiliate women."

Well as lame and tame as the show is now, they probably could get all those stations and advertisers back.

It was basically his radio show shot with robotic cameras with bad lighting. I tried to watch it but couldn't get into it. I did like his old channel 9 shows though. They were pretty good.

Hell, I was still a fan back then and even I could sit through it. Once he brought TV cameras in the studio and his radio show was forced to become a TV show I started listening less as well. It was the one-two punch of losing Jackie and turning his show into a visual medium, that for me was the defining Jump the Shark moment.

Best part of that article was Stern saying "They're lazy, they're old, they're tired" regarding SNL. Of course, regurgitating his radio show for TV with zero new content wasn't being lazy at all.

If I remember correctly it was just the E! Show but on cbs, wasn't it? I agree with other poster, the channel 9 show was great because they actually did bits and worked on something, this show was Howard mailing it in, just using his radio show, no effort to do anything new. I think they did do some animation like the Jackie racist teacher bit, but I remember watching it and if you were a fan like I was back in the day and listened every day, it was nothing worth seeing.

Sometimes it was good. The cbs show was a disappointment because we expected another channel 9 show but instead just got a rehash of the E show

WGAS what those PTV dopes have to say. If it was up to them they'd have DS shutdown along with 90% of everything else on the Internet, radio and TV.

I had already heard the show so, I was basically just listening to it again but, now I can watch them sitting there.

Also, it bummed me out to actually see how skanky and fugly the filthy porn whores were that they were going crazy about.

It was better left as theater of the mind.

I remember the E show but i just could not get into it. one of the things i remember distinctly is tuning into the show and jackie shut the lights off! I mean you go to watch a show to see the beatles of radio and then they turn the lights out. I wasnt going to stand for that so i yelled out loud turn the fucking lights back on. They never did so i just left the show early.

I agree here, this is where the show started to become more scripted and less off the cuff. As the show progressed it really started to show that there was a script to follow.

I agree completely about the TV show damaging the radio show. It had it's most profound effect during those last few years of HowardTV when so much of the radio show was devoted to the visuals of porno porno porno. A stupid strategy seeing that HowardTV failed.
