And do you have a success story on how you did it?

I'm still trying to quit smoking with no luck , I last about 6 hours before i go back and chain smoke to catch up to where i was.
I've tried the patch , cold turkey , keeping busy , Candy , And pictures of what it does and i don't seem to have the will power.
I wish i never started being cool but too late , Been smoking for 28 yrs and best i can do is cut down to a pack a day.

If you quit, What worked for you ?

I quit january first 2011, started again 2 weeks ago. I took zyban/welbutrin and it made it not 100% horrendous. It was hard, but having done it cold turkey before, I can say the pills helped.

I was going to try talking to my doctor about meds for it this Friday , But the commercials have about 20 seconds of how good it is and 40 seconds of the side effects it might have :dontknow:

On zyban? Makes my hands shaky so I take a beta blocker to steady them.

Of course, with all SSRIs, there's the sex issues.

His videos really take the most educated approach to quitting I've seen. I tried everything else to stop, but watching these us what worked for me.

A professor of mine once told our class about a strategy to quit, she swears the success rate is high, if you really do it. Essentially, you take a pin or needle, and poke a hole in the cigarette (right above the filter) for each day you continue smoking. You never limit how many cigs you smoke... just what you normally would. So the first day you start, in every cigarette you smoke, you poke one hole above the filter. The 2nd day, you poke two holes in each one. The third day, three holes and so on, but let yourself smoke as many as you need. Eventually, you are taking in so much air, it's not really worth it to smoke. If you do end up wanting to smoke down the road, you just go back to the last day you smoked and poke that many holes in it. I guess the advantage is that you don't psychologically feel like you are limiting yourself, you just ease down on the nicotine. Plus you don't have the cost of buying patches or going on prescription meds.

You should try it! Just set a date you are going to start, tell us here at Dawg's, that way we can hold you accountable and check up on you. She felt so confident in the idea that she was trying to figure out a way to market it... but you really can't make money off the idea of a push pin.

Let me know your start date! :)

I've never been able to fully quit, but I have gotten it to the point now, that I only smoke when I drink. Been that way for about 3 years. It's not as good as not smoking, but it's better than smoking a pack a day. :dontknow:

I tried quitting multiple times without help and couldn't get to day three. The last time, I used Welbutrin and that curbed the withdrawl AMAZINGLY. I was able to quit for several months.

    ...but of course started again.

Yeah, like four years ago. That shit was so easy too!!!! It only took me like, four days to completely forget about ever smoking again. Now when I smell smoky motherfuckers I wanna go tell them they fucking stink and to stay the fuck away from me and shit.

A trip to the hospital convinced to to quit cigs and never look back.

The hospital visit had nothing to do with smoking but I did have difficulty breathing. I said to myself, "If this is what lung cancer feels like, I want no part of it."

Zyban works as bye you claimed. It has been used for quitting smoking for about 15 years but has been out for over 30 for anti depression.

The great thing about it is you take it, keep smoking and then slowly quit. the thing about it is it slowly takes effect, as it does, you will notice you are smoking less and less. The cigarettes don't even seem as appetizing.
Your doctor can write it for zyban, it has a good pack of info to help, if your insurance won't pay for it have him put "can substitute welbutrin".

It can work, it isn't a miracle meaning you still have to put an effort but you'll be amazed at how it helps. I quit after 17 years of smoking and each day that passes you will feel empowered. I don't mean to sound corny but you really will.

Just remember even months later you will have urges but also remember they will go away, some will be incredibly strong but they go away, usually in one or two minutes.

    Good luck.
