According to Making Star Wars, the 34-year-old ‘Star Wars’ prequel actor might be picking up his old lightsaber in ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’. “A team in the U.K. are soon heading to the U.S. to begin training Hayden Christensen for a Star Wars: Episode VIII appearance of some sort,” they revealed. But it comes with a word of warning: “This is a rumor I raise an eyebrow at incredulously.” Of course, Hayden Christensen became famous for his rather wooden performance as Anakin Skywalker – the young Jedi who would eventually become Darth Vader. Starring in both ‘Attack of the Clones’ and ‘Revenge of the Sith’, he gave a human face to one of the galaxy’s most-feared villains. And by the end of the prequel trilogy, he even got the chance to suit up in the classic helmet and cape, complete with dodgy-breathing. But will Hayden Christensen really get the chance to return? “I have a hard time thinking they would need Christensen to train for Star Wars if he’s simply a ghost,” they added. “He is still physically fit. To me the rumor almost points towards some resurrection of Darth Vader story idea or perhaps a flashback? It makes it all hard to imagine.” I have to agree – it seems like an incredibly odd move to harken back to the prequel era when J.J. Abrams has spent the best part of several years attempting to recapture the magic of the original trilogy. And let’s face it – Hayden Christensen wasn’t exactly beloved in the role. But that doesn’t mean it’s the last we’ve seen of Darth Vader… and with several of his former possessions making their way into ‘Star Wars VII’, I get the feeling we’re still going to feel his presence either way. And that may also extend into ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’. “We still haven’t been able to firmly confirm Darth Vader makes an appearance in Star Wars: Rogue One. Earlier in the year there were rumors that concept art existed showing the inclusion of the character… The most I have heard at this juncture is that a fully operational Darth Vader chest piece along with the helmet made it to the creature shop for the next film. The lights on the chest piece work and everything. Here’s where I get hesitant about it: There were not several of them, just one seen by a source and mentioned by another.” Will Darth Vader appear in the first ‘Star Wars’ spin-off? It’s certainly possible. And I get the feeling it’s far more likely than an appearance in ‘Star Wars 8’. ‘Star Wars 8’ heads to cinemas on 26 May 2017.
