My laptop is deadish. I had a spill on the keyboard, but everything else worked fine. I disassembled it to remove the keyboard, tried to clear it, gave up, ordered anew one and reassembled it. Now I get no power or anything.

Anybody have any ideas on what I could have missed?

And if it's dead and I need a new one, I'm curious if anybody has problems with Windows 7. I've been thinking about wiping the hard drive of the new one and installing XP, since I'm so used to it and I hear scary stories about 7.

    TIA for any suggestions.

move this shit to the pc forum :jj:

Windows 7 works fine, though I have had some issues with my laptop connecting through a hardwire connection to my home network -- it's a million times better than vista, that's for sure

Oh gosh.. do not go back to XP... XP was a great OS (certainly do not go NEAR Vista) but Windows 7 is absolutely fine. Have had it since the first Beta went public. More than fine really, it actually made me excited to use a computer again (for a while).

Just make sure to get Win 7 Pro or Win 7 Home Ultimate.

Excellent Normal and Naz. I appreciate it. I've never even looked at 7 but the experiences I've had repairing my families Vista computers made me want to blow torch them.

I just wish I can get my old one going again, but itsgood to know I'll be fine if I killed it.

i bought a desktop a little over 2 years ago that runs vista. vista isnt as bad as ME, but it sure as hell has its faults.

my main problem with vista is that i cant boot up properly from sleep/hibernate mode. i have to resort to pulling the plug from the wall, then doing a clean reboot.

you should be okay with XP elias, despite how "ancient" it is. just be sure you have a good activation code.

and for godsakes, dont eat or drink around your laptop!

I'll tell you one thing, swimbo made a big fucking mistake by picking the week I'm debating on buying a new laptop to be a royal pain in the ass.

I always wanted a new MacBook.

    And iPad.

    And PC.

I've used a bunch of different laptops, Dells, HP, Macs, Sony, Acer, Asus even a Gateway .. and the only two I would now recommend are Dell's and Macs. Use to be Sony, but not anymore.
Everyone will have different experiences of course, but that has been mine. Macs may be a lot more expensive but they know how to make nice hardware and the lovely thing is the benefit of having both Windows and an Apple OS on the machine at the same time. IMO, Dell is the only one who comes close to making machines as sturdy as Mac Books.

Check out the Dell Outlet and the Apple used section.. They have completely reworked refurbs, sometimes even brand new machines for 10-50% less with same warranty as new.

and I love my iPad. the only thing that sucks about it is that you can't do more than one thing at one time.

But it's a great way to entertain yourself, and lighter than a laptop to lug around every day.

That's very helpful. I seriously appreciate it. I've only had 2 laptops, both Gateways. While I don't have any major complaints, I also can't really name anything that blew me away. I'll be looking at the Dell's for now, and the Macs depending on how things go around here. :jj:

iPad is one of those things I can't really think of what I would use it for, yet I still really want one.

I'm losing my mind. I usually Photoshop to relax and vent. For every one thing I upload and share I have 5 I just file away. I'm going to have to resort to drawing shit and posting it through my iPhone if I can't rectify this soon.
