The rubber part of my new otter box is already dirty. Nothing is working. Tried alcohol and nail polish remover. Please don't make a mockery of this. Serious rubber cleaning suggestions only please.

    oven cleaner

    serious
I used to use it to clean all sorts of stuff
    it worked on everything
also destroyed numerous items(those non-stick pans?--they get pretty useless if you use it on them)
so the wife now bans it from entering the house

I use that on many things too. Yes works very well on some things and ruins others. :) I guess I could try it on a q-tip. Afraid I will get it on phone though.

It's not often you think about how to clean rubber. Rubber is very easy to clean and care for. Natural rubber comes from the sap of a rubber tree. It was first used as coating on fabrics for extra protection. Once rubber was combined with sulfur and it became more elastic and durable, it became widely used in products in the house and in industry. Man made rubbers are more resistant to heat, solvents and oil than natural rubber. Rubber does not require many cleanings; it depends on what the rubber is being used for.

    What you'll need:

    • Dish washing liquid
    • Water
    • Towel
    1. Mix a few drops of dish washing liquid in water and saturate your towel with the solution. Ring the towel of excess water and wipe down rubber. Rinse the towel in clean water and get rid of all excess soap on rubber.
    2. This should remove all dirt and grime from rubber, but it might take several cleanings to get rubber completely clean if it is severely dirty. Never use petroleum or oil on rubber or it will ruin the rubber. For example you would never oil a rubber belt on a lawn mower.
    3. To maintain proper care of rubber, avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. This will cause rubber to break down. Rubber will show signs of this when it starts cracking. With these simple steps, it is easy to clean rubber and maintain its strength and durability.

Yes, I have that and every other cleaning product on the planet. I am not usually the person in the room who doesn't know how to clean something. I don't have much rubber in my life though.

Take it back to the store and tell them you need something less complicated.
