Ever use a portable lift for working on your whip? I do all my own vehicular maintenance and was thinking how nice it would be to have a lift. I see some portable scissor types online for 1500 or so. Any experience here? I'd like to be able to store it away easily when not being used.

Really don't know if a 1500 lb lift would be safe to pick up car DBD. Most cars weigh a lot more than that and if use it other than the mfgr's instructions you could have a car fall or roll over you. Personally, when I built my dream shop I went overkill and installed a 12000 lb. floor mounted lift. It'll pick up anything I have (including farm trucks) with ease, and there's that margin of safety with it being rated so much higher than anything I own.

Depends on what you want to do. pulling the wheels, change your oil they're fine. Try to do anything under the car and the lift is in the way.

No I meant $1500. Most are rated around 6,000 that I've seen.

If they're US made, you should be OK (although as flathead said it may get in the way). I wouldn't trust a Chinese made one regardless of it's supposed weight rating. After all, it's your life you're gambling with, and the cheap Chinese shit just isn't worth that much of a gamble.
