Hey DBD, can we talk about great rock music, and the music theory behind it?

Dude, you rock on guitar. How long did it take you? How did you learn?

Also, do you ever get blown away by the sheer creativity of some songs? The rock songs that I really like, I can just listen to over and over and over again and appreciate the creativity behind all the music and vocals. Like, how the fuck do they come up with those melodies? And how do the chorus and verse match so well, while still being totally different? When I jam, I sound like fucking shit. I've decided I'm going to try to learn notes on the guitar, so I can maybe better understand music theory behind making good sounding songs.

In my head, I imagine awesome sounding songs with good melodies, where everything sounds good, but the moment I pick up the guitar or bass or whatever, my head goes blank.

Are you good at coming up with good sounding melodies and stuff, DBD?

Gary's frustrated by his musicianship, so he's finally decided to learn "notes on the guitar".

I don't know how to jam :/ I just play random power chords and they all sound horrible after each other. When you improvise a guitar solo, how do you know which notes sound good after each other?
