The deal includes a 23-cent increase in the gasoline tax that will raise the state's 14.5-cent-per-gallon tax — the second-lowest in the U.S. — to 37.5 cents — the seventh-highest.

The new revenue will finance an eight-year, $16 billion transportation program. With federal funds included, the total funding is $32 billion. Christie said this will be the longest and largest reauthorization in the trust fund's history

For motorists, the higher gas taxes could come in early October. But it will be offset somewhat by a reduction in the sales tax from 7 percent to 6.875 in 2017 and 6.625 percent in 2018.

The sales tax is part of a package of tax cuts the lawmakers agreed to in exchange for the first gas tax hike since 1988. The compromise struck Friday afternoon also eliminates the estate tax, eases taxes on retirement income, boosts the Earned Income Tax Credit for the working poor and creates a tax deduction for veterans.

I'm in NY but always gas up in Jersey.
    Thanks Gov Fat Ass

That's fucked up. If he said 8 cents a year increase for 3 years it would be better.

It is, that's why I moved to Florida. Taxes on homes are outrageous. You can buy a home in the northeast corner of NJ for like $60K but your taxes will be $6K a year so most of your mortgage about 2/3 will be taxes. and in 10 years you pay in taxes what the house costs over 30 years.

Florida is heaven. 80 degree winters. no snow, people are not as loud and obnoxious and rude and don't drive as crazy as up north.

It's also a lot cheaper to live here and most people are 30 minutes or less from the beach.
