What's a good part of the general Tampa area to rent a beach front condo this winter? I've read several disparaging comments here and there on Dawgs about Tampa. I don't want to wind up driving through a gauntlet to go places.

This should be interesting. Mods feel free to move but I didn't see a travel section.

I've been to Clearwater in the winter before.

20 minute ride from the Tampa airport. Nice restaurants, nice "scenery".

Tampa sux I lived there for years what's not black ghettos is white trash. Clearwater is the place for waterfront but it can be pricey. Go further south to fort myers for the best value its quieter and laid back and cheaper

"Flee the snow"? What snow? We don't get that anymore; it rarely gets below 40f anymore.

What are you talking a about with the deaf people? Sanibel is nice. A little higher end too. No big strip centers (best buy and shit like that) like everywhere else. Only small locally owned shops and plenty of restaurants etc. The only chain they have on there is 1 DQ, and if that ever cooks, no more. No high rises there either. Got some more bucks? Go to Captiva just north.

Ha, "It's all grunting and makeup!"

I'm not limited to Tampa, just some place within 1.5-2.0 hours of Orlando, as I can't sit still at the beach for a week.

I live in Florida. Yeah I know.

Clearwater is really nice. 15 mins from Tampa. Very laid back and beautiful beaches. A bit further south is Sanibel, Captiva, sarasota.
Someone mentioned New Smyrna, that is on the Atlantic. Very nice beach. big and sandy, you can visit the Lighthouse at Ponce inlet. If you do got to Smyrna there is a cool roadhouse called JB's fishcamp on A1A just south, good food and nice sunsets. Rent a kayak and go look for manatee.
