So I was bored and was searching through Craigslist and found a dude looking to trade a '78 Ford F100 4x4 for a similar condition/vintage Chevy. I was looking for an F100 4x4 when I bought my '85 Chevy K10 and couldn't pass it up. It turn out the guy with the Ford only bought it because he couldn't find a K10 when he was searching. It's destiny!

    My '85 K10......

    ....other guy's '78 F100.....

Both have new tires and from the pics the F100 seems clean. The advantage, for me, is that I've had a ton of Fords and know 'em well, the F100 is a 4spd vs. the auto in the K10, the F100 is older so it's less "complicated". The only disadvantage is that the F100 has a straight six vs. the 305 in the K10. 305s are historically weak but mine is a strong one. The 300 straight six is a killer motor known to run forever but it's really not my thing. I know the bell housings match up so a swap to a 289/302/351w is no big deal down the road so it's really a no-brainer. I just gotta find the time to make the trek to PA for an inspection.

I'm never happy unless I have some sort of vehicle shenanigans going on. :toptip:

    Questions (srs)

Is money going to change hands? Your truck is quite a bit newer and has the cool front bumper.
Do you know how badly he's fucked up the suspension? He's done something to it.
Does yours have square headlights too? Square headlights would be a deal killer for me.

    I forget.

    Road trip!

I sense a mocking of me. :toptip:

I won't know until I see the F100 in person. As long as there isn't a bunch of bodywork or cancer underneath I can overlook a bit for the 4spd and simplicity! I could keep and build the F100 forever, the Chevy I just bought because I couldn't pass it up and have no real attachment to it.

Thanks for the scientific analysis! :c

I wouldn't bother with a motor swap until the 300 just plain gives up, which is usually around 400K.

When the "new" body F-350 came out in '08 we had a King Ranch on the lot for $67k and I swore it'd rot on the lot at that price but it sold in like 2 days.
