You ever see this show? Disturbing, riveting, fascinating.

My mom became a hoarder around the time I turned 13 years old (when she married and moved in with my step-father who is a hoarder). I had to live with that nightmare all my teenage life. I'm 39 now. Their house is still just as bad.

I am not a hoarder but have some tendencies and it freaks me the hell out. I live in a 400 square foot apartment in NYC with closets and under-bed storage plaguing my brain.

Are you a hoarder? Know one?

my parents had quite a collection of crap in the basement and the garage. Because of this I am exactly the opposite. I throw out or give away anything I don't need or haven't used in the last 3 years.

My sister is a hoarder. She became really ill and we discovered the horrors of her house. My bro and I wanted to burn it down.

Know one. My Mom. She refuses to believe it but it's true. She's picked up and left an entire house (with contents) and bought a new one, even had one built! They soon get filled up with junk. She's not "dirty" and you'd never know it to look at her, but she's got a major problem.

I'm the opposite - very little to no clutter. Hate that stuff.

I found a kitten skeleton under junk in my younger brother's closet. We had close to 27 cats at one time. Finding that kitten while I was trying to clean/organize ruined me for life. Guarantee there are plenty more skeletons under the many heaps of junk.

I'm EXACTLY the same. Sometimes I kick my own ass for shit that I've thrown out - but clutter drives me batshitnuts - and we all know it's already a short walk for me.

Sometimes I wish I could hire someone to come over to my apartment and take what needs to be dry-cleaned to the cleaners, hand wash what needs to be hand-washed, repair what needs repairing, and sort and donate or toss the rest (like the pretty clothes I used to wear when I was 20lbs skinnier).

My boyfriend assures me I'm not a hoarder. But seeing what I've seen in my mom's hoarding house totally distorted my view of what possessions are. :(

:omg: Never knew any hoarders personally, but have seen the show and it is disturbing. Finding a skeleton of my own pet after years would be pretty messed up.

Thanks! The worst part of it is, it was a kitten from an unknown litter. We had so many cats, and so many piles of stuff (actually the whole upstairs is one pile of junk all spread out), there are probably a couple of litters of dead kittens underneath. :banghead:

Yeah my stepdad was one. The basement of my moms house was filled with stuff. In a roughly 1000 sq. ft. area, it was filled from floor to ceiling, with just a U shaped pathway around the outside near the walls. She would have a shit fit if he brought much stuff upstairs so only one room upstairs was packed really.

After he and my Mom passed away it's taken my brother and I two 30yd. dumpsters (those are huge), and about 30-40 pickup truck loads to the landfill to clean up. Those dumpsters were packed neatly too. Lawdy what a mess.

Oh noooo, I'm sorry to hear what you went through! The day I have to deal with their house has been a cause of serious dread for me for years. I was talking about it w/my boyfriend and he said basically, "Guess what. You don't have to deal with it. We're going to hire people to do it. You don't have to think about it one more minute". He's the best!

Yeah, I used to go over there sometimes and dread having to clean it out too, which I knew was coming. It's good if you can pay people. That's a lot of money though, like double or triple the price of a regular dumpster.
