and tried to get back into the game. He will ask to be in the lineup tonight against Boston. I mean hockey players are not as tough as say a baseball players, but this guy is PRETTY damn tough.

Detroit Red Wings forward Drew Miller feared he had lost an eye on Tuesday night. A day later, he was talking about getting back on the ice.

After a first period faceoff in the Red Wings’ zone, Ottawa’s Mark Stone was upended with Miller directly behind him. Stone’s skate blade caught Miller on his right eye, slicing Miller’s face. Fearing the worst and leaving a trail of blood behind him. After getting 60 stitches Drew Miller tried to get back on the ice but the doctors and wife wouldn't allow him.

Love that pic because it shows the peril they put themselves in, but it's fake. It was all make up for a photoshoot. But those guys played without masks in net. Crazy. I mean the game wasn't as fast or hard and pucks usually stayed low, but still crazy.

1980: In a game against the Islanders, [IMG]Mark Howe, a Whalers’ defenseman, lost his balance and slid into the Hartford net feet-first. The force tipped goalposts and the sharp, pointed metal centerpiece used to hold the goal frame together impaled his right buttock, grazing the rectum and just missing his spine. Howe returned to the ice six weeks later.
