DIY for me. My reproductive organs hang outside my body.
I won't do electrical work
it scares me
and I got my house painted by a company 2 years ago--I hate painting--so much hate for it
but i'll do anything else
my specialty is unclogging sinks and shitters
It varies for me -
I will attempt to do myself:
I tend to pay a professional for:
drywall taping and finishing
hardwood floor re-finishing
DIY. I'm a cheap fuck.
I'm split on this. I like DIY but I work 60 hours plus a week. When I have projects at home I have no time to enjoy life or spend time with the fam. I have yet to hire someone to do anything at my house but I am getting close to giving in.
I do everything besides things that require a ladder over 25 ft. I have one part of my house that is 30 ft and a crazy steep roof I'm not walking on it.
Electrical work (for the household is very simple). I do very nice wood work then I usually mess it up with paint.
if the job requires me having to buy new tools they i hire somebody.
and @Biff Dibiase
have people to do that work at the Larry inc. compound.
Home Depot has a very good and reasonably priced tool rental department.
Last July I bought a house built in 1899, and since then have upped my DIY game 100 times over. I can barely remember life before this house, when I wasn't spending virtually every night and weekend doing projects. That's not a complaint -- I quickly realized that I love this stuff, and will choose projects over what most people consider entertainment any day.
I can do some, especially electric work. My girl is a better painter than me. She handles that. I'm scared of plumbing. I'll hire a plumber for that.
I wish I could supercharge my ac.
I'm not a super fan of plumbing. If I sweat a pipe I'll check on it every day for a week. And I realized a while ago that hand tight plus one turn of the wrench is all you ever want for most plumbing parts.
I'd rather restore cars and tractors.
I hire someone I'm awful at handy work of all kinds
I travel for work too much and when I get home the last thing I wanna do is work. I can fix a toilet, otherwise I'm all over Angie's list. I let them work while I drink me a beer and Netflix it. Right now I have 4 broken sprinkler heads, a sliced sprinkler snake and need some sheet rock repair from running a hardwire throughout the house as wifi is turrble. I just arrived back home from Turkey for work, ain't got no time for sweatin. I'm in need of Hops and empty calories.
I'll do everything except HVAC and getting on the roof.
Those are exactly the jobs i like to try just to buy new tools. I have a wet saw for tile ive used for one project.
My philosophy is the complete opposite.
