I'm so sick of mine, they just raised it another $40 because they say there are too many foreclosures now and they have to keep a certain amount in reserve by law

for $210 a month we get a gate with a guard on duty 24/7, huge swimming pool, kids pool, 2 jacuzzis, weight room, tennis courts, basketball courts, party house (cost $50 to rent out), overnight street lighting AND A JERKOFF BOARD THAT HANDS OUT TICKETS FOR VARIOUS STUPID INFRACTIONS

never again will i buy a home that has an HOA

No, I like the pool, jacuzzi and weight room part though.

HOA? Home Owner's Association? I have one, it's pretty unobtrusive but sometimes there's too much information. I would rather not belong to one frankly. Mine's $35a month...it was 25 a month until we dug a trench to prevent flooding.

My first house had one, the subdivision was still in phase one at the time so the had nothing while I was there. I moved out, the was back in the 90s, today it still doesn't have the promised clubhouse and the entrance could use some sprucing up.

The trench, snowplowing in the winter. Other than that I don't know...no clubhouse, an HOA
meeting once a year, with cookies and food....I might skip it this year...

The place had covenants. No vinyl siding, cedar fences only, no above ground pools. This was fine. Then they came around wanting a petition to allow above ground pools as the clubhouse was being delayed in being built. I wouldn't sign it because I had just put an in ground on in and didn't want the above ground ones put in. Now if you drive through there people have above ground pools and those stupid looking white plastic fences up. Kind of bullshit you go into a place with the mindset that it will stay a certain quality and it changes to appeal more people.

HOA's can fuck off and die. I absolutely hate mine. I still don't know where my money goes because we have no neighborhood pool or guardhouse. The kicker is a letter the entire neighborhood got about 3 weeks ago indicating that we needed to fertilize and maintain our lawns. Keep in mind that I water yard for an hour a day and we haven't had any rain in four months to go with the 100 degree heat.

And the best thing about HOA's is that they can put liens on your home and take them away from you

I never understood the whole HOA thing. Buncha nazis telling you what you can and can't do with your own home?

    Bullshit

I read today where some family put up a sign in their front yard honoring their son who is serving in Iraq and their HOA filed a fucking lawsuit against them

It's about that. The main thing that bugs me is that my wife is a CPA and does the taxes for the lawn company that maintains the esplanades so I have access to what they charge our neighborhood yearly and it doesn't match what the HOA says it is. The problem is if I raise too much hell at the meetings about this I put my wife at risk and I run the risk of having every little petty thing being put down as a violation.

No, they aren't very common up here. Pretty much only in the newest developments, and of course in Condos
