Roughly $200/ month for 2 smartphone contracts through Verizon w/ a grandfathered unlimited data contract that I use for home service with a Mifi unit. However, I have no other viable option for high speed home internet. I consider myself lucky that I have that!
When I bought my house, there was no such thing as high speed internet. :(

I'm in the same situation, live down a 3/4 mile dirt road. time-warner said they would run lines down here for some ridiculous amount of $...like 10grand.

Yeah, exactly! I had the same convesation with those cocksukers, 15 years ago. They wanted $5000 to run a line, to do me the honor of having to pay them every fucking month! Fucking bastards!

Look into broadband. I also had no high speed options without data limits. Then I tried Frontier. I thought it would be shit but I was wrong. I live far away from the hub so I'm getting about 1.5 mbps. Surprisingly fast enough for seamless YouTube and Netflix on 2 TVs at once. About $30 a month.

    Wow.

I'm a city guy so I had no idea they make you pay for that.

How do they run the lines? Above ground or buried?

If there is damage anywhere along that line are you responsible for repair costs?

Would that affect your property taxes?

No cap and they don't throttle you down. No contracts neither, so if you don't like it just cancel with no early termination fee.

Lines are buried. IDK about damage. Taxes are not affected.
I live in a rural area, with mostly apple orchards up and down my road. There aren't enough houses to make it worthwhile for them, but if you want to pitch in for the wire, they will do you the big favor. Of course you don't get any of that back if the other people on the road decide to hook up. They won't even send you a thank you note.
Pretty soon, wireless will replace cable altogether and I'll be glad when they're out of business.

That would bother me to no end. Since the company is making you foot the bill for something that will make them money you would think they could at least calculate a new person's share and credit the people that put up the money the money for the line.

Thanks for explaining this. I had no idea.

I was on dial-up until 2007. It took me more than 3 hours to download a Stern show.
