Never tell a saleman how much you can afford per month, and always negotiate the price of the car without telling them you have a down payment.
research on Consumer Reports and Edmunds.com and go prepared
If you can't pay for the full price of the car in 3 years or less you can't afford it, and never, never, never lease a car unless you can take the payment as a business expense. If you do decide to lease car, never, never, never put a down payment down on it (you're just prepaying the rent)
