Once a thread is started, how can the OP change or correct the thread title?

This came up in a different forum, but a good record of it here would be helpful. In the other thread, Dawg said:

"You can edit the title anytime. Go out to the main forum and double click by your thread title. "

I tried this and got the following (screen shot):

As can be seen, after I double clicked to the right of the thread title, I do get the blue cursor. However, it won't do anything. That is, I can't arrow key, backspace, del, or overtype the existing text. If it matters, I'm using Firefox for Windows as browser.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mr Ed

Just click on the thread and into "Edit Post" then the "Go Advanced" button. Title should be towards the top. If you need me to take care of it, send me a PM. :hat:

I think I tried that and it changed this part and not what is seen on the forum page.

Indeed it will only change the thread title in the post itself, not on the forum.
Need to be a mod to do that.

I'd be happy to help if you provide a link for me, Ed. :toptip:

Hey Wing: Any reason only mods can do it? Is it to prevent people from pranking e.g. when they start a thread, get a bunch of posts and then do a 180 on the thread title?

I had the same issue in this forum (see "Igonore This Thread"), and unfortunately this can lead to some bad feelings ....when Slippy posted that Dog photo. She actually did try to switch the title (after many begged her to), but only the title of the first post box was changed

I don't know why Dawg has the settings like that. I found it frustrating as well.
I guess just proofread your threads carefully before posting them.

In the future, quickest way would be to PM me.
Add me to your contacts for quicker access.
Click my name, go to my profile and there is a link to add me under my profile pic.
You may then go to "Quick Links" on the navbar and "Open Contacts Popup" anytime you'd like help with something.

    UPDATE:

Permissions are now enabled for members to edit their own thread titles.
