Is it a long running joke? I wasn't a regular SFN'er so I'm not aware of the whole history of the rumor. I know it's crazy that a man his age could have that hair (although possible) but why is everybody so obsessed about it?

If so, he's a real f'n hypocrite when he says shit like "man...I can't imagine going bald." For whatever reason, I'm leaning towards he curls/colors his hair. That Sharon Osbourne vid posted yesterday where she says "he doesn't like his hair tocuhed" raised an eyebrow though.

It's obviously a wig. He's even begun adding little frosted sprinkles to evade questions as to how it could still be jet black at the age of 60 or whatever the fuck Imus dinosaur age he is now.

I wonder what Ben Stern would look like with Howard's hair.

Whatever the case may be, does his hair really require three different threads a day?

Obsessing over a dude's hair at this magnitude is almost as gay as Jeton running through a cornfield that starts at Joey Boots and ends with Lexington Steele.

Seriously guys, let's just gang up on Beth. Nothing gay about that!

Howard's been a real fuckin' hypocrite for at least 15 years.

Long before SFN, there was "alt.fan.howard-stern" a newsgroup which goes back to 1995. It's still around, although most of the newer messages there are cross posted from other sources.

Google search string: wig 1997 group:alt.fan.howard-stern (I tried 1995 & 1996 first, but didn't get any real hits until '97)

Here are the first two threads, from March & April, 1997. During the following years, as wig-mania grew, Howard eventually stopped attacking Charles Grodin for wearing a wig, which up until then, he'd been doing for about a decade. At the time, many saw that as proof that Howard had joined the wig wearers.

Is there any truth to the rumors that Howard wears a wig?

I think you are referring to posts in alt.fan.charles-grodin.
there are only 4 posts from the entire world, but they all have to do
with his hair because there is nothing else to talk about.

Silly! He has always had short hair! He has been wearing a wig
for like...3 years now. Only a few people knew about it, now, we all
    know! Right PeckerHead?

By your e-mail address, I assume you are from Canada. What were you doing
in NYC? What was Howard doing at JFK? How do you know it was Ronnie?
Maybe Howard tied his hair kind of like pony tails and put it under his
jacket or something. Did you get any stuff autographed?

That person is right. I saw Howard at airport too, and he has cut off
his hair. For you dumbass fans with limited brain power. Howard did
mentioned he would cut off his hair after the movie promotions.

First of all, there's no hair to speak of that we're even obsessing over, merely the majesty of the veiled chrome. L.D. can rock age with dignity, why can't Howard? "In other words, look," it's another piece of evidence to the overall hypocrite star-fucker plastic Bethono Band fake Howchie picture, so why the fuck not?

That is awesome info, I wonder if it would be possible to contact the original poster(s). 1997 seems like an eternity for internet posts, but that would be interesting to hear more detail. Good detective work.
