i honestly think Howard may be in the early stages of dementia. He and Robin will discuss something early in the show. Then, later, Howard will bring the same thing up, as if it's a completely new topic. A few shows ago, the bumper music was "Jacking off to your Facebook Page" by Killah Karisma. Howard had no idea what the song was, had no memory of interviewing the kid who, wrote it. He just seems to be losing it.

He is losing it in many ways. Unfortunately I do not think it's dementia

I think he suffers from Montgomery Burnsitis. He's so insulated because of his wealth. No one calls him on his lies and the more he gets away with it, the more he does and the more outrageous the lies.

He just goes through the motions on the show following the outline handed him ten minutes before the show starts. He doesn't remember because he doesn't care. Dementia would be good karma though, drooling on his Depends screaming "Leno, cock, doody"

I thought the greater indicator of dementia presented itself today when Wiggy claimed that he was just as big a star as Bill Murray. :jj:

Howard will never get that he was a celeb of the moment, and a regional celeb at that while Murray will be timeless, Parent will watch Caddyshack, Ghostbusters etc... with their kids for generations, very few will say, "hey, let's listen to that episode of lesbian dial a date from 1992 tonite"

That could be. On the other hand, Howard's done so many interviews, he's probably not paying attention anymore to who he's interviewing or what he's asking.

I think the filler is there partially to conceal his dementia. He certainly leans on the pre-recorded and fake stuff, and has all his interview questions researched and written by somebody else like a guy who's losing his marbles. You could say that's all just laziness, and probably some of it is, but why wouldn't you bother to enjoy yourself if you could, and had to do a show anyway?

If you listen to a show from the mid-90s you can clearly hear Howard enjoying himself, and he's shot out of a cannon. The shows are incredibly content-dense and incredibly energetic, with what would now amount to a skeleton crew. They could, and did, go past 10:30 most days, and that was cutting things short. It must take an incredible effort nowadays to try to stretch a half a pat of butter over an entire loaf of bread.

I think that's what all the gay-kiss, host-can't-get-in-a-word-edgewise schtick on the talk shows is about, too. If he ever sat down for a genuine conversation, people might discover he had nothing to say, and nothing going on upstairs.

    It's over, Yanni.

Yeah, as a lot of you point out, it could be that he's completely disconnected, and phoning it in. However, I've been around dementia (unfortunately) with close family members. There's something about Howard right now that reminds of them in the early stages. When it's pointed out that something has been repeated or forgotten, there's this kind of bewilderment, like "huh? How did that happen?" Also, when he was interviewing Alex Trebek, he (Alex) was talking about aging, senior moments, and Howard seemed interested, and to be information gathering. We all know Howard is terrified of death, but I think something else is going on.

I have been thinking he has some sort of early dementia for awhile.
