that his "charity" is tipping well at restaurants

...and Robin: "but that's how to be "connected."

Of course that's back in 1991 when the real Howard Stern was still alive and kicking

See, I disagree. I think 2015 Howard is the "real" one. Guy he always WANTED to be, but wasn't allowed/accepted by the "in crowd". 1991 Stern is the act we all bought because it was so crazy funny/entertaing.

Back in those days radio was a habitual medium and he didn't want to shill things to his listeners.

The good tipper act is more to ensure that no one describes him as a cheapskate rather than some kind gesture by Howard.

What stuttering John used to do ambushing idiot celebrities goes so against what the show is now.

The closest thing now is Wolfie will ambush 35 year old virgins at video game conventions.

When he realized the tax benefits of the scams that are private foundations, and saw it as a vehicle to keep his slow adult wife on the periphery of public exposure, he was all in.

I think Robin and her poser artist's "15 Foundation" was an eye-opener for him....where they traveled and lived high on the hog expen$ed as foundation-related while "awarding" relatively little of the donations that it was downright criminal
