Howard likes to pretend he had 20 million listeners and was #1 in every market right up to the point when he left terrestrial radio and of course 9-12 million listeners now. Funny, I found an article that stated by the last few months he was on the air on terrestrial radio, his listenership had dwindled to 6 million listeners.

I know the article has been posted here because it talks about the Arbitron ratings for his Sirius show which was a little over a million. I don't know if we ever discussed the above point.

It is pretty clear Howard explored Sirius and XM because he saw the empire on terrestrial radio crumbling. He likes to take credit for destroying terrestrial radio, but the reality is it was falling apart long before he left and he would have been a victim of the collapse too if he stayed. At best, Howard really can only claim he spend up the collapse by leaving.

So only 1.2million hear him on Sirius? I doubt it's that many.. I bet they count people who "channel surf" and come across his shit channel once in a while.

That was 2007 before 3 day work weeks, 3 day work months in August, endless AGT talk, Kitten Time with Howie and Beth, the evolution of Howard, Artie leaving, Benjy becoming head writer, etc. He had far more listeners in 2007 than he has now.

I think the 6 million was cumulative too.

I saw on a ask.com question of all 20.5mil of Sirius' subscribers/listeners (whatever they call them now), 1.2mil averaged tuning into Howard's morning show for the month of March in 2013. I think the reference was from his wikipedia page so how reliable it is, who knows.

But for comparisons Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me would be bringing in 3x as many listeners for one hour on Saturday afternoons for NPR.

Edit: YouTubing Howard Stern brings his most recent shows up and they average 10k views which isn't a lot at all for The King of All Media if he really does have "millions of listeners" the numbers should be a lot higher so maybe the 1.2mil statement had some truth to it.

Terrestrial was cooler. So I don't see the problem.

Occasionally, I will cruise the FM dial. Unless I'm listening to non-profit college stations (amazing source for new and unusual music), it all seems pretty much like a wasteland now.

Is terrestrial radio even alive anymore?

I don't know what they are talking about Robin. They tell me that every single person who owns a SiriusXM receiver or listen to it online listens to us. Even subscribers who cannot get our station. I hear they just turn their dial to 100 and listen to nothing in hopes to hear our show.

It isn't daily. It is weekly cumulative. He might has as little 300,000 to 400,000 people listening to him.
Lets be clear. If he had 6 million listeners he would get true advertisers and not be penny-grubbing with toilet add ons. Does hocking "Squatty Potty" sound like somebody reaching millions per day?

Howard only allows advertisers for products he uses to get on the air. I mean Tommy John sent him underwear even before they even considered to be sponsors. Howard absolutely loves his six Squatty Pottys. And he always gives a Steven Singer gold dipped rose to Beth every Valentine's Day.

Imagine how Beth would react if Howard gave her a gold dipped rose for Valentine's Day.

Howard never came close to topping Drew and Mike in Detroit, and they sucked. I don't know how they got to be so popular.

Teenage girls listen to top 40 when their iPods crash or they can't get a WIFI signal for Spotify or Pandora.

Personally, I only listen for local sports talk, but I don't even do that as much anymore because I have found several podcasts that are more informative and entertaining covering my teams.

Howard only was successful in Cleveland in the Mid West. He was fired from two radio stations in Chicago because he couldn't make a dent in Mancow's ratings.

That is something that doesn't get talked about enough but Howard bombed in almost every major Midwestern city. Milwaukee, Twin Cities, Detroit, Chicago, Indianapolis, etc.
Either wasn't in the market or he got stomped
