He went on and on about how much Benji needs to learn how to use a Wind Sock when he does interviews, that Wind Socks are something every person in radio should know how to use

how Wind Socks are soooooooooo important.. shit Howard said that he Howard Stern has used Wind Socks for years and years and even Sal and Richard know enough to use Wind Socks

Well this is what a Wind Sock looks like

The one on the bottom is called a "Dead Cat" and is the most effective in the wind (vs. the foam covers in the first pic.).

Maybe the H man was trying to avoid getting Beth upset if she was listening?:dontknow:

Howard usually brings a guy with him to deal with the wind.

when i was a poor teen making demo tapes, i used my moms old panty hose stretched over a wire coat hanger, as a makeshift "windsock".

benjy is a writer, not an audio tech. i'm concerned with the quality of the content he produces, not the quality of the audio

In Howie's defense on this one, while the term "windscreen" is the correct one, in general, when I worked in radio/tv most people just said "windsock". Personally I never found them to be of much use in strong wind when doing outdoor stuff unless you did other things to them. I'd even put one on the mic and then put a mitten over that. I was usually trying to pick up wild sound during live sporting events, so I didn't need to worry about appearances.
