Okay AM2 didn't bomb but it fell way short of expectations and came in at number 2 this weekend

not content to just poison one guaranteed winner the HSS curse also took out Katie Couric's show this week just for shits and giggles.

Said it once , Said it twice.. The Howard Stern show is the KISS of death for anyone who come on to promote...

AM2 had all the earmarks of a bomb...even the trailers weren't funny not to mention the overkill with Will Ferrell's Dodge ads for the past month or so. The four of them have been doing so much PR this last week it seemed to be out of desperation...they knew this movie sucked. They've been on Jon Stewart, Watch Whats Happening Now, some morning shows, an ESPN show, etc, etc...no one can blame them for not trying to sell it I suppose.

I'm not surprised. The ads really turned people off, like mentioned above, you can't blame these guys for selling their movie...but they really tortured their potential audience with all of those shitty advertisements. Someone I talked to said it was alright but it was damn near two hours long...that's way too long for Ron Burgundy.

Not a chance and the theaters showing it get to keep half of that 40 million.

Anchorman 2 soon to be followed into the toilet after the worst celebrity interview ever by Stillers Walter Mitty movie.

You want to see a bomb. Wait until you see the box office results of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty next week. Howard will likely propel his buddy Ben's film to sixth or seventh place for the holiday week. I see Anchorman 2, The Hobbit, Wolves of Wall Street, 47 Ronin, Frozen, and American Hustle all beating that DOA piece of shit next week.

I'm with you. I felt it had a few moments, but overall it was one of the most overrated comedies of all time.

It's funny. Just two days ago after a strong Thursday night showing, the predictions that AM2 would gross $50 million by the end of this weekend and now they are projected to earn $10 million less.

The first Anchorman sucked. Most overrated movie right behind Something About Mary. No hater here, I thought Ferral was great in Blades of Glory.

I bet just like "private Parts" they predicted gross receipts of a $100 million dollars easily... it will probably peter out at 40-60 million and get a "best movie" award from some festival in Czechoslovakia

Agreed. I'll bet Stiller is a nervous wreck and this movie doesn't look very good, nor have the reviews been overwhelmingly favorable. He'll be back to work making Meet the Fockers part 5 in no time at all.

There is a set formula for returns.

It's something like, in the first week of release, there's a 90/10 split between the film company and the distributors, in that order.
The following week it becomes 80/20, then 70/30, etc. until it gets down to about 50/50, if the film lasts that long. This was based on an article I read 15 years ago, but I'm sure the numbers are not far off what I've written here.
